Summary

A Research Technician II position is available under Dr. Hasini Ediriweera, a physician-scientist with a Ph.D. in Cell and Molecular Biology and clinical expertise in Med-Peds Cardiac Critical Care for both pediatric and adult populations, in collaboration with the laboratory of Dr. Irina Larina in the Department of Integrative Physiology at Baylor College of Medicine.

The Larina Lab investigates reproductive physiology and early embryonic development through innovative live imaging and genetic approaches in mice. Dr. Ediriweera’s research focuses on developmental cardiology and cardiac optogenetics, combining cutting-edge imaging modalities with optical and molecular tools to study heart function and development.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on research experience at the intersection of cardiac physiology, molecular biology, and bioengineering, ideal for aspiring medical students, scientists, or physician-scientists interested in translational cardiovascular research.

Job Duties

  • Manages and maintains mouse colonies.
  • Conducts genotyping and maintains accurate records.
  • Performs histological analysis and basic molecular biology experiments.
  • Assists with cardiac optogenetic studies and live imaging of embryonic and neonatal hearts.
  • Performs mouse surgical procedures and participates in in vivo experimental setups.
  • Collects, organizes, and analyzes imaging and molecular data.
  • Assists in experimental design and data interpretation under supervision.
  • Orders supplies and maintains lab inventory.
  • Performs general and administrative lab duties as assigned.
  • Upholds laboratory safety and ethical standards.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with maintaining mouse colonies.
  • Experience with genotyping.

Work Authorization Requirement:
