Job Description

The Kepecs Lab is looking for a motivated Research Technician to join our energetic, high-impact research environment. We investigate the neural circuits underlying decision-making and brain-body interactions using a suite of novel circuit tools, including high-density electrophysiology and optogenetics. This role is central to our experimental pipeline, assisting with technical studies, data management, and the sophisticated instrumentation that drives our discovery.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Experimental Execution: Support research studies involving small animal procedures, novel circuit tools, electrophysiology, optogenetics, and histology.
2. Data Pipeline: Perform data collection and analysis; maintain and organize complex data files to ensure research integrity.
3. Lab Operations: Maintain high-standard lab conditions and equipment; assist with autoclaving, ordering, and preparing stock solutions.
4. Protocol Management: Ensure compliance with safety procedures and maintain meticulous documentation of laboratory and specimen conditions.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of laboratory experience (or equivalent combination of education/experience equaling 4 years).

Preferred Qualifications:

Educational Background: Degree in Neuroscience, Biology, Psychology, Biomedical Engineering, Physics, or Bioinformatics.
Technical Experience: While we welcome newcomers, prior experience in animal handling, electrophysiology, or histology is highly appreciated.
Quantitative Skills: Experience with programming or data analysis (e.g., Python, MATLAB, or R) is a significant plus.
Professionalism: Excellent organization, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative communication style.
