The SHC seeks to promote healthy lifestyle choices and to holistically support the physical and emotional well-being of students in order to achieve academic success.
The GW Student Health Center (SHC) is hiring a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) to collaborate with our primary care team in providing primary care medical services for undergraduate and graduate students visiting the ambulatory SHC at George Washington University.
Job Duties & Responsibilities:
• Monitor for patient’s arrival for medical appointments, accompany and/or assist patient into the exam room in a friendly and professional manner. Inform medical provider of patient’s arrival and room assignment.
• Obtain patient vital signs, including height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respirations, pulse oximetry. Perform visual acuity and orthostatic blood pressures as needed.
• Transcribe vital signs to Point and Click (PnC), the electronic medical record, correctly and in a timely fashion.
• Take a focused chief complaint and brief medical history including current medications and allergies.
• Explain and perform a variety of diagnostic testing procedures such as:
o COVID/Flu testing
o Monospot testing
o Rapid strep testing
o Throat culture
o Urinalysis and urine culture
o Urine pregnancy testing
• Enter point of care lab results into PnC
• Assist medical providers during examinations and procedures as needed.
o Ear lavage
o Fluorescein eye exams
o Wound care
o Suturing
• Give intramuscular injections.
• Order titers and Quantiferon Gold testing for nurses.
• Immunization review.
• Restock, clean and prepare the medical exam rooms.
• Restock and clean the SHC lab.
• Restock the bathroom. Light cleaning may be occasionally required.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 1.5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience. Current Medical Assistant Certification required.

Skills
• Experience in primary care (i.e. hospital, physician’s office, or ambulatory care setting or urgent care/emergency room) preferred.
• Strong oral and written communication skills
Licensure
• Medical Assistant Registration with an accrediting body.
• Current basic CPR/AED
