Job DescriptionEast Tennessee State University (ETSU) Department of Pediatrics and Medical Education Assistance Corporation (MEAC), in conjunction with Niswonger Children’s Hospital, seeks an outstanding leader to serve as Director of the Division of Pediatrics Hospital Medicine. This position will be an Associate Professor or Professor level. This is a great opportunity for a visionary leader to guide a dynamic division dedicated to patient care, education, quality improvement, research, and academic excellence within one of the nation’s top medical schools. The Division Director is responsible for strategic leadership, faculty and provider development, clinical program oversight, and operational management within Pediatric Hospital Medicine. The Division Director will foster a culture of collaboration, inclusion, educational distinction, innovation, and scientific inquiry, representing the department, institution, and beyond.
Our Pediatric Hospital Medicine Division provides comprehensive care to children in both inpatient and outpatient settings, leads innovative program development, and is recognized for its commitment to education and research. The division consists of a dynamic team of 10 hospitalists who are active in our quality improvement projects, research, and teaching of medical students and pediatric residents. The position will be an ETSU non-tenure, clinical track faculty appointment (contingent upon MEAC funding).
Responsibilities include providing services at Niswonger Children’s Hospital at Johnson City Medical Center, the primary inpatient site for medical students and resident pediatric education for the ETSU Quillen College of Medicine, and other Ballad Hospitals. Niswonger Children’s Hospital provides medical care to pediatric patients from a large geographic area, including Northeast Tennessee, Southwest Virginia, Southern West Virginia, Eastern Kentucky, and Western North Carolina.
Our region is at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains and offers excellent schools, affordable cost of living, and a wealth of outdoor activities. The beautiful Smoky Mountain National Park is in proximity.
Required Qualifications
The candidate must be BC/BE in Pediatrics at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated Skill in inpatient pediatrics, newborn nursery, and medical education.
Experience in quality improvement is a plus.
