What Your Job Will Be Like:

Are you motivated about making an impact to national security and passionate about supporting others? We are seeking an R&D Computer Science Build Engineer with a strong software engineering background, a crucial member of the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) program. Your primary role will be as a Build Engineer with a secondary focus on software development. Our program supports the United States Space Force in its nuclear detonation detection and monitoring missions.

The USNDS system relies on space-based sensor payloads that transmit data to satellite ground systems for mission processing. We are seeking a dynamic individual to join our highly talented team, with a strong interest in designing, developing, building, and releasing large-scale software and infrastructure for a high-consequence, high-rigor, remote sensing ground systems.

On any given day you may be called on to:

  • Support developers and testers from code compilation issues through to a deployed operational system.
  • Develop, build, and maintain CI/CD pipelines for large-scale software systems.
  • Design and implement enhancements to automation for a more ideal DevSecOps process.
  • Implement and test software to address complex national security challenges.
  • Partner with architects, other developers, and integration test teams to ensure implementation of critical requirements.
  • Effectively communicate technical assessments to multiple stakeholders.
  • Propose and participate in internal research and development efforts.
  • Mentor other members of the team.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicants must be able to work on-site at the Albuquerque, New Mexico location.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant STEM field, plus five (5) years of relevant experience; or master’s degree in stated fields plus one (1) year relevant experience.
  • Experience with software engineering and testing practices for applications written in modern programming languages (e.g. C++, Java, Python).
  • Experience developing software in Unix/Linux operating environments.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Experience working with large-scale (1M+ SLOC) code bases.
  • Experience with Git or comparable configuration management tools.
  • Experience with Jenkins or comparable CI/CD automation tools.
  • Strong understanding of Object-Oriented analysis and design.
  • Proven successful experience as a build and/or release engineer.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills leading to solid experience with problem identification, root cause analysis, and implementing solutions.
  • Experience with unit test frameworks.
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code and platform-as-code system administration automation tools such as Ansible and containers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a collaborative, dynamic, and interdisciplinary team environment, including sound technical verbal and written communication.
  • An active DOE Q-level or DOD equivalent security clearance.

About Our Team:

USNDS 6 Ground Program Office (Department 06743) is responsible for the project management, systems engineering, and operations of the satellite ground systems that support the US capability to monitor the earth’s surface, atmosphere and surrounding space for nuclear detonations. This department serves as one of the technical interfaces to the Space Force for projects within the United States Nuclear Detonation (NUDET) Detection System (USNDS) Ground Program, which include the Integrated Correlation and Display System (ICADS) and the Ground NDS Terminal (GNT). In addition, the team works closely with Air Force Technical Applications Center (AFTAC) operators to support real-time missions, resolve and analyze anomalies, and define ground system requirements.
