Job Description

Summary

The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Scheduling Specialist II to work in our clinical practice at the Baylor College of Medicine McNair campus. This position will be responsible for efficient and timely scheduling of patient appointments and routing calls to appropriate staff members.

Job Duties

  • Registers patients in the Epic system. (20%)
  • Books, coordinates, and reschedules patient appointments. (15%)
  • Verifies insurance of new and returning patients. (15%)
  • Schedules surgeries, outpatient appointments, and admissions as requested. (15%)
  • Answers the telephone and routes patient calls. (10%)
  • Maintains and updates current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly, and appointments are confirmed. (10%)
  • Calls patients to remind them of their appointments. (5%)
  • Greets patients in the clinic and answers questions. (2%)
  • Assists with the preparation of agendas, materials, meetings, etc. (2%)
  • Assembles patient charts for next day visits, updates profiles on patients.(2%)
  • Interviews new patients via telephone prior to scheduling an appointment. (2%)
  • Verifies insurance and pre-certification of insurance benefits. (2%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One year of experience with Epic.
