Job Description

Summary

The section of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is seeking an enthusiastic, hardworking, and reliable Medical Assistant II to be a part of the General Gastroenterology group to support our clinicians providing services to patients. This position will assist in the examination and treatment of patients under the direction of the physician. Main responsibilities include interviewing patient, measuring vital signs (i.e. pulse rate, temperature, blood pressure, weight and height), recording information on the patient electronic chart using EPIC, working desktop messages for incoming calls/questions from patients, and limited procedure scheduling for GI providers. Shifts will be 8:00am - 5:00pm, Monday-Friday, with a one-hour lunch break.

 

The candidate must possess a proactive, team-oriented attitude. The Medical Assistant II contributes to a patient-centric and customer-focused environment where the needs of the patients come first. 

Job Duties

  • Performs patient care responsibilities and provides clerical/administrative support.
  • Performs routine patient care responsibilities that includes taking vital signs, collecting specimens, and safely preforming laboratory Point of Care Testing.
  • Collects patient history, performs medication reconciliation and enters medical information into the EMR system (EPIC). 
  • Properly notes the primary complaint/reason for patient’s visit.
  • Sets up instruments and equipment for providers.
  • Assists with equipment that require daily calibration.
  • Assists with procedures.
  • Administers medication under direction of a supervising Physician.
  • Instructs Patients on general care and medical procedures.
  • Maintains patient and service rooms in a neat and orderly condition.
  • Schedules patient tests, procedures, and appointments.
  • Conducts patient outreach phone calls and post visit follow-ups.
  • Responds to routine patient phone calls and My Chart messages and route to RN, CDE or MD as needed.
  • Performs clerical/administrative responsibilities that includes filing and/or scanning patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
  • Takes inventory of clinic supplies and orders supplies as needed.
  • Sorts and distributes clinic mail and medical records to the appropriate clinic personnel.
  • Schedules & preps colonoscopy/EGD for when patient is in clinic for specific provider assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED and completion of a Medical Assistant Training program through an accredited institution.
  • Two years of relevant experience.
  • Current certification as a Medical Assistant through an accredited professional organization (AAMA, AMT, ARMA, NCCT, NHA, NAHP, or AMCA).
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through American Heart Association.
