What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Product Engineer Lead to support the Production Agency (PA) activities for the Electrical Environmental Sensing Device (EESD). The EESD will be produced entirely within the MESA complex and the EESD PRT has both Design Agency (DA) and Production Agency (PA) responsibilities. With the PRT recently completing the Production Definition and Documentation Review (PDDR), this is a great opportunity to start on-boarding a PA lead to work closely with the existing DA lead as the team progresses towards Final Design Review (FDR) and FPU, ultimately followed by full-scale production. This position is an opportunity for a highly motivated, experienced engineer to provide leadership and have significant impact on the ND program. Creativity, innovation, and adaptability will be needed to deal with the challenges of fielding new technology into the stockpile. Deep knowledge of the ND RPPs and drawing system is necessary. Experience with production environments and a production approach will be valued and will enable a smooth transition from the development phase to high rigor component production. Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 80% of the time. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Partner with the Technical Lead to coordinate technical directions. + Work with the EESD DA PRT lead and WCU DA and PA PRTs on programmatic activities regarding progress tracking, documentation, reporting, and so on. + Team closely with the EESD Project Management team to meet formal PM requirements. + Work with PRT Team Members to plan and implement development, production, and qualification activities. + Mentor team members in ND product realization and low-volume, high-rigor production procedures and standard methodologies. + Collaborate with PRT management to hire and train staff to ensure the program is adequately resourced. + Assess and address gaps in production capabilities, processes, and procedures to enable high-rigor, high confidence production activities. + Represent the project to the Systems group, the next-level-of-assembly component group, different levels of Sandia management, the NNSA, and the USAF, as needed. *The Sandia job code title for this position is R&D Electrical Engineer, however candidates may have background in in Electrical Engineering Mechanical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, or other STEM related degrees. Qualifications We Require: + Bachelor’s degree in STEM related field plus eight (8) years of directly relevant and/or PRT experience or; + Master’s degree in STEM related field plus four (4) years’ experience + Demonstrated experience with qualification or production of a ND component + Active DOE Q or DOD Top Secret (TS) clearance Qualifications We Desire: + Experience as a Product Realization Team (PRT) Lead + Knowledge of Sandia’s Realize Product Procedure’s (RPPs) and Drawing Systems + Experience in a structured manufacturing environment, such as private industry or another SNL production environment (e.g. Neutron Generators, Thermal Batteries, ASICs, HBTs) + Knowledge of MEMS and/or mechanism based environmental sensors would be an advantage + Ability to re-think and adapt the existing system to work for a new technology + Strong oral, written, interpersonal and problem-solving skills, including the ability to collaborate well in a diverse team environment and develop positive relationships About Our Team: The Inertial Sensors Department, 5216, performs state-of-the-art design, fabrication, and testing of R&D and Product Delivery of MEMS based sensor technologies for national security applications. Current product delivery activities are for the W80-4 EESD program as a new 3 axis accelerometer for sensing the flight discriminating event (FDE) for the long range stand off (LRSO) missile. Future programs are aligned for future path length module (PLM) sensors and environmental discriminators to enhance the nuclear safety themes for future systems. The department also contributes to advancing Sandia’s competency and capabilities in Heterogeneous Integration through establishing internal capabilities for 2.5D and 3D microelectronic integration Posting Duration: This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’.
