Job Description
JOB DESCRIPTION:The College of Dentistry is seeking candidates for an OPS Dental Assistant. This position plays a critical role in the examination and treatment of patients, assisting dentists and supporting the faculty practice clinic.
In addition to performing basic supportive functions in accordance with Florida’s Dental Auxiliaries Table of Permitted Duties under the supervision of a licensed dentist, the duties and responsibilities of this position include:
Educating patients on dental procedures.
Taking and pouring impressions.
Recording patient vital signs, medical and dental history and the dentist’s notes in the digital patient chart, as directed by the dentist.
Maintaining strict compliance with State, Federal, and other regulations, (e.g, OSHA, Dental Board, HIPAA, ADA).
Preparing and cleaning treatment rooms; sterilizing instruments and setting up instrument trays
Maintaining a clean, sterile, and positive environment.
Managing supply inventory, as well as organize and maintain lab equipment.
Maintaining a working knowledge of dental procedures and terminology
Run weekly sterilization test
Restock bur blocks consistently
Drop off and return instruments and cassettes to central sterilization timely
Check in/out lab cases, communicate with lab/doctor regarding any issues
ADVERTISED SALARY:
$18.00-$20.00 per hour commensurate with skills and experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
High school diploma and one year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience. BLS certification upon hire.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
One of the following:
Graduate of a dental assisting course from a CODA-accredited program.
Pass the national DANB Radiation Health and Safety (RHS) exam, OR pass a radiology course and exam approved by the Florida Dentist and Dental Hygienist Licensing Board that meet the criteria established by rule of the Board.
Three (3) or more years of practical experience.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and the desire for professional growth.
Very professional appearance.
Be organized and possess a superior knowledge of dentistry.
Excellent communication and organizational skills
