College/Department Information
The Medical College of Georgia is one of the nation's largest medical schools by class size, with 260 students per class. The educational experience is anchored by the main campus in Augusta, regional clinical campuses for third- and fourth-year students across the state and a second four-year campus in Athens in partnership with the University of Georgia. MCG's expanding partnerships with physicians and hospitals across Georgia currently provides about 350 sites where students can experience the full spectrum of medicine, from complex care hospitals to small-town solo practices. MCG and its teaching hospitals also provide postgraduate education to more than 500 residents and fellows in 50 different Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-approved programs. Our researchers and clinicians focus on what most impacts the health of Georgia's and America's children and adults, including cardiovascular biology and disease, cancer, neurosciences and behavioral sciences, public and preventive health, regenerative and reparative medicine, personalized medicine and genomics. Our physician faculty also share their expertise with physicians and patients at about 100 clinics and hospitals statewide.
Job Summary
This position is responsible for accurate data collection and abstraction from different secondary data sources including electronic medical record (Cemer Power Chart) and create and maintain a database for the department. The research associate will also compile, clean and manage the database. The incumbent will coordinate the data collection component of all active studies of the department.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Study Management
- The position is expected to provide the documentation necessary for the mandatory regulatory oversight regulatory management of study including obtaining IRB approval and other institutional requirement approval from regulatory committees.
- Maintaining regulatory documents for clinical studies.
- Managing, maintaining and validating departmental database
Data Collection and Analysis
- This position will participate in clinical research with the primary responsibility of overseeing, involving, and screening patient in the electronic medical record, collecting and abstracting quality data.
- Analyze and extract disease specific data from the electronic medical record.
- Provide logistical support to the departmental research team members including physicians, investigators, and residents in data management for improved patient care, clinical performance, and outcomes.
Collaboration
- Provide logistical and informatics assistance to the research team of the department including physicians, investigators, residents and medical students in data collection, data analysis and generating reports for improved performance.
- Provides data support for scientific publications an presentations in different professional meetings.
Administrative
- Perform administrative and technical work in support of ongoing research projects and develop and evaluate new research techniques and procedures.
Other
- Perform all other job-related duties/tasks as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and two years of experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory, particularly clinical trial research.
OR
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned with a minimum of five years' research and/or clinical experience; previous supervisory experience.

Detail-oriented with strong organizational, analytical, multi-tasking and prioritization skills
Shift/Salary/Benefits
Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (work outside of the normal business hours will likely be required of an employee in an exempt level position)
Pay Grade: R15
Salary Minimum: $38,913 - Midpoint: $54,478
Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
