What You Will Achieve
The Senior EHS Specialist will be part of a dynamic team of experts in Environment, Health & Safety. Due to the importance of this team for Pfizer's colleagues and patients, the organization relies heavily on its team members' timely actions and efficiency.
You will be expected to use safety methodologies to ensure safe work practices throughout your assigned manufacturing area of responsibility. You should have the ability to coach and mentor colleagues of all organization levels on EHS. You will focus on injury prevention techniques, participate in field auditing/ coaching, enhance digital capabilities in various safety engagement programs, support safe execution of high hazard programs, and provide technical expert and procedure direction to assigned business areas and contractors.
As a Senior EHS Specialist, your focus on the job will contribute to achieving project tasks, goals, help foster a continuous improvement mindset, and lead by example while creating a collaborative team environment for colleagues and contractors. This position reports directly to the Senior Manager, Environmental, Health, & Safety.
How You Will Achieve It
Provides technical Safety guidance to Rocky Mount business units to ensure a safe workplace and compliance with site EH&S standards and Pfizer Recommend Practices.
Works to identify safety improvements and propose solutions within the Rocky Mount Site.
Responsible for EH&S sign-off on Management of Change, EH&S Evaluations, and signature back-up to Senior Manager, EHS.
When incidents occur, support the team with the incident investigation to determine root causes and help define / implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Champion the sharing of lessons learned across the site when appropriate.
Engaged in the development and implementation of improved EHS standards to continuously raise the bar for Safety engagement and program maturity.
Engaged in capital projects to help ensure design meets our EHS standards and project safety plans are developed and executed.
Partner and influence peers to drive a standardized and harmonized approach across the site to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
Works closely with Colleague Wellness, Maintenance, Engineering, Project Engineering, Operations, and Technicians to address occupational safety related matters.
Successfully uses analysis tools to perform risk assessments, investigations, and program auditing that results in implementing improvements.
Regularly conduct inspections/audits/peer reviews. Discuss positive observations and areas for improvement.
Engaged in the development of training programs that align with Pfizer Global EH&S Recommended Practices and Site EHS Programs.
Responsible for performing EHS self-audits and annual program reviews. Versatile in High Hazard Programs i.e., Control of Hazardous Energy, Hot Work, Confined Space, Asphyxiants, Working at Height, Working On or Near Exposed Energized Electrical Parts, Excavation and Floor Openings, and Ground, Floor, & Wall Penetrations.
Participate on Global EHS initiatives and provide subject matter feedback during Global EHS standard reviews, as needed.
Engage in EHS benchmarking opportunities with Global EHS network to help foster continuous improvement and sharing of best practices.
Utilize Pfizer’s 3rd party contractor safety management system to ensure contractor selection methodology aligns with Pfizer Contractor Safety Recommended Practice and site SOP.
Active Emergency Response Team (ERT) member
Perform other EH&S and general duties as identified
Qualifications
Must-Have
Applicant must have High School Diploma (or Equivalent) with eight years of relevant experience;
OR an Associate's degree with six years of experience;
OR a Bachelor’s degree with at least three years of experience;
OR a Master’s degree with more than one year of experience.
Experience in assessingrisks, developing, and implementing proactive strategies to minimize EHS risks and process deviations.
Experience with High Hazard programs i.e., Control of Hazardous Energy, Hot Work, Work at Heights, Excavation, Electrical Safety and Confined Space
Successfully uses recognized analysis tools to perform risk assessments, investigations, program auditing that result in identifying value-added technically feasible improvements.
Ability to manage projects, is process minded, and demonstrates the ability to build and execute action plans to ensure alignment in pursuit of organizational deliverables.
Demonstrates Initiative, leadership, excellent organizational, planning, interpersonal and problem-solving skills.
Demonstrated ability to successfully influence and engage with multiple levels of the organization and the proven ability to lead cross functional teams is required.
Competency in Microsoft Office programs
Nice-to-Have
Experience in Chemical, Refinery, Pulp/Paper, or Pharmaceutical industry.
Knowledge of FDA and/or GMP policies and procedures
CSP, CIH or other EHS related professional certification
Experience with Six Sigma/Lean Manufacturing
Safety practitioner with broad technical and regulatory experience who can effectively work with management, across multiple disciplines, in a matrixed organization.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
Must be able to perform field observations which could involve walking or standing on uneven terrain, squatting, bending, twisting, turning, and reaching above shoulder height and work in various climates from extreme cold to heat.
Able to lift and carry minimum 25 lbs. occasionally
Able to stand or walk for periods of 8 hours or more
Sit for extended periods of time
Able to meet deadlines, both internally and externally
NON-STANDARD WORK SCHEDULE, TRAVEL OR ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS
Standard work schedule, Monday – Friday, days; may infrequently require off-shift and weekend support; may require on-call support.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $75,700.00 to $126,300.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer’s Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 10.0% of the base salary.
