Job Description

The Department of English in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Oklahoma invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Multiethnic Early American literature, pre-1900. We seek a scholar with a promising record of scholarship and teaching to begin Fall 2024. Expertise in one or more categories of multiethnic literary and cultural studies, including the following: African American, Asian and Pacific American, Caribbean, Indigenous, and/or Latinx prior to 1900 is required. Secondary areas of specialization are open, and all methods are invited. The Department of English enjoys a close relationship with the departments of Native American and African and African American Studies and the Latinx Studies Program.
The position is a full-time, nine-month appointment with a standard teaching assignment of two courses per semester. Faculty teach a balance of courses for undergraduate majors, graduate students, and non-majors completing the University of Oklahoma's General Education requirements. The Department of English offers Ph.D and terminal Master degrees in Literary & Cultural Studies (LCS) and Rhetoric & Writing Studies (RWS).
