Under minimal supervision, provides skilled care and handling of laboratory animals in a safe and sanitary manner. Primary working areas include standard housing areas as well as specialized areas including but not limited to: non-human primate housing areas, biohazardous areas, animal colonies requiring specialized procedures.
Conducts daily health checks and feeds and waters animals.
Changes cages as scheduled and sanitizes housing areas.
Maintains accurate colony records.
Performs technical procedures such as: permanent animal identification, animal restraint and tissue biopsies.
Receives animals into and transfers animals out of animal facility. Records and maintains extensive, accurate records for transfer activities.
Establishes breeding cages and weans juvenile animals.
Receives, processes and fulfills internal purchase order request.
Coordinates with Primary Investigators and other staff to maintain colonies and achieve scientific objectives.
Communicates directly with stakeholders to convey detailed information and accurately achieve directives.
Provide routine husbandry and other job related duties as assigned.
Detailed record keeping and log documentation.
Ability to work independently with limited direct supervision.
High School diploma or GED.
Two years of relevant experience.
Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) by the American Association for Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS).
Basic computer skills (e.g. email, Excel, Word)
