The Dental College of Georgia (DCG) at Augusta University is seeking applications for a full-time faculty member at the rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, or Professor on the clinician-researcher track. Responsibilities of the position will include clinical, teaching, service, and administrative duties. As part of the effort distribution, the potential recruit will be working as clinical research director, under Associate Dean for research, for the newly established CERSI center for research. This will require great understanding and background in clinical research, advanced training for scholars to build on their foundation of clinical research and taking their expertise to the next level, through new funding opportunities and scientific networking. The position is focused on enhancing the DCG's ability at every stage of the clinical research process, from writing grant proposals and launching new projects.
Applicants should hold a D.D.S./D.M.D. degree from a CODA-accredited dental school and be eligible for licensure in Georgia. The ideal candidate will have experience working with vast network of experts, have great communication skills, and understanding of funding mechanism and process.
Responsibilities
Teaching - 15%
- Developing lesson plans or materials to teach students in a course about the prevention, examination, and treatment of diseases of teeth and the mouth.
Scholarship - 50%
- Working with faculty and investigators to facilitate the execution of research projects and studies from protocol concept to funding, final report and interpretation of clinical data.
- Continuously evaluate the effectiveness of the clinical research status at DCG to ensure success
- Collaborate with all DCG departments on matters related to clinical research needs both internal and external to the College
Identify the funding and strategic opportunities and set the key deadlines and project milestones within function.
Service - 5%
- Serving as the clinical/Dental team expert to provide direction to all project team functions, organizes Advisory meetings (e.g., agenda-setting), and identifying and liaising regarding program strategy and scientific advice)
Required Qualifications
DDS/DMD degree from an accredited college or university (or foreign equivalent); active unrestricted license in another state or be eligible for licensure by the Georgia Board of Dentistry.
Assistant Professor - Early level career as a faculty member with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Associate Professor - Mid level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Assistant Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Professor - Senior level career faculty member with at least five years at the rank of Associate Professor with background, education, and training consistent with the following position requirements.
Required faculty employment qualifications for all USG institutions and all academic ranks within these institutions shall be:
- Consistent with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)'s requirements for institutional accreditation;
- Evidence of ability as a teacher;
- Evidence of activity as a scholar and ability in all other duties assigned;
- Successful experience (which will necessarily be waived for those just entering the academic profession who meet all other requirements); and,
- Desirable personal qualities judged on the basis of personal interview, complete biographical data, and recommendations.
Preferred Qualifications
In addition to DMD/DDS, the preferred candidate would have a Ph.D or MBA, MPH

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.
The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.
Assistant Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Associate Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
Professor- Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
