What You Will Achieve

You will be part of a dynamic team of experts who form Pfizer’s Environment, Health & Safety division. Due to the importance of this team for Pfizer’s employees and patients, the organization relies heavily on its team members’ timely actions and efficiency.

You will be responsible for activities related to compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations/company policies. You will also assist in planning the changes in physical facilities to meet new environmental requirements. You will support the team in preparing contracts for licensed hazardous and radioactive waste disposal firms, monitoring waste handling and organizing spill-control teams. Your knowledge base will help you in updating environmental and spill-control manuals and procedures.

How You Will Achieve It

ROLE SUMMARY
This position will assist with Environmental programs to facilitate Pfizer compliance with federal, state, and local regulations and Pfizer guidelines addressing environmental at the McPherson site. It will provide oversite to the site’s Environmental databases, performing regular audits to ensure that accurate information has been entered (Cority, Enablon, Sphera, etc.). Conducting EHS-related training to colleagues or contractors on an as needed basis. Executing purchase requests from within the EHS Department. Perform and track chemical approvals and Safety Data Sheet reviews within EHS Department. Conduct required inspections within site as assigned (SPCC, SWPPP, Opacity, Waste Areas, etc.) and ensure inspections are documented electronically and/or hard file. Support EHS inspections completed within specific business areas and overseeing inspections completed by 3rd party contractors.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Interacts effectively with a wide variety of areas and a broad spectrum of people with diverse backgrounds, and accountabilities.  Communication and presentations at internal meetings.
  • Enters required information into databases from purchasing records, waste manifests, etc. as required to support compliance reporting.
  • Completes all required environmental inspections within site, oversees completion within specific areas or by 3rd party contractors.
  • Aids in the tracking of comprehensive environmental, health & safety assessments to evaluate adherence to applicable governmental EHS regulations, and Pfizer policies and guidelines.
  • Aids in the implementation as directed of tasks related to the environment, sustainability, dangerous goods, material storage, process safety and loss prevention programs affecting Pfizer colleagues, the physical facility, and contractors working at the site.
  • Participates in regulatory inspections and inquiries involving environmental, dangerous good, sustainability, material storage, chemical purchase, and other compliance areas as required by the EHS team.
  • Aids in the deployment and execution of any corrective and preventative actions related to EHS programs.
  • Maintains a thorough working knowledge of EHS computer databases and utilizes a wide variety of other internal and external databases. 
  • Conducts detailed analyses of work-related accidents, employee exposures, and chemical and environmental information.  Conducts analyses to identify trends, including costs and potential risks, as needed.
  • ERT Team Member: may provide 24-hour response to assist in the resolution of emergency or spill response incidents.
  • Successfully completes training required to perform job assignments and seeks out additional training opportunities to enhance skills and abilities for program compliance and improvements.
  • Understands and complies with company practices and policies in general and maintains working knowledge of the applicable Pfizer requirements (e.g., EHS Management Systems, EHS Standards, etc.).
  • Develops and maintains knowledge and understanding of current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) as they relate to Pfizer Operations.
  • Ownership of site programs as directed by Sr. EHS Manager.
  • Tracks and maintain records from all the EHS Team monthly meetings.
  • Performs other tasks and duties as directed by Sr. EHS Manager, EHS Manager and/or Environmental Lead.

Qualifications

Must-Have

  • High School Diploma (or Equivalent) and 6 years of relevant experience OR an Associate degree with 4 years of experience OR a bachelor’s degree with 0+ years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of computer operations and common programs such as Word, Excel and PowerPoint is required.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, creativity in problem solving, and flexibility,
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.  Must be comfortable making presentations to groups.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience working in manufacturing environment.
  • Associate Safety Professional (ASP), Certified Hazardous Materials Practitioner (CHMP), or other professional certification.

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is routinely exposed to general laboratory and/or manufacturing areas; work near moving mechanical parts; toxic or caustic chemicals; the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
  • Must be able to walk, climb stairs and ladders and lift and carry up to 25 pounds for limited distances.
  • Must be able to support 24/7 operations and support 2nd and 3rd shift operations on an as needed basis.
