NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs: If you have a Medical Portable Electronic Device (MedPED), such as a pacemaker, defibrillator, drug-releasing pump, hearing aids, or diagnostic equipment and other equipment for measuring, monitoring, and recording body functions such as heartbeat and brain waves, if employed by Sandia National Laboratories you may be required to comply with NNSA security requirements for MedPEDs. What Your Job Will Be Like: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Appointee to contribute to the design, fabrication, and integration of emerging memory with digital logic to produce analog algorithm accelerators exploiting in-memory computing. This position will involve assisting with the design of bit-cells and core structures, including the development of masks and step-by-step fabrication process flows. In addition, custom and novel post-processing options on prototype devices will need to be developed. On any given day, you may be called on to: + Implement existing microfabrication processing steps to help produce and validate memory prototypes. + Integrate prototype memories with existing prototypes and work with materials scientists and electrical engineers to validate them. + Invent new processing methods and help realize new device prototypes. + Conduct innovative research, publish and present results in refereed journals and conferences. + Develop and pursue new opportunities in areas that support Sandia Mission activities. + Work in multidisciplinary teams. Qualifications We Require: + PhD in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or related field conferred within five (5) years prior to employment + Ability to acquire and maintain a DOE L clearance Qualifications We Desire: + A record of publication and innovation, as evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, technical books or issued patents + Familiarity with the fabrication techniques and materials used for conventional and emerging microelectronic devices + Experience with neuromorphic hardware and/or machine learning/artificial intelligence hardware accelerators + Familiarity with the basics of ASIC and VLSI design, as well as heterogenous integration + Proficiency with programming languages including python and other numerical methods + Excellent oral, written, interpersonal, and organizational skills + Ability to work in a collaborative research environment on problems in a variety of domains About Our Team: The Multiscale Fabrication Science & Technology Development Department leverages a diverse capability set to provide science and technology products to enhance Sandia's national security missions. The department includes a broad set of expertise for fabricating devices for applications in atomic physics, quantum information S&T, micro-optics, and microsensors. We provide solutions including atomic physics based sensors, microelectronic device fabrication and characterization, microfabrication at the atomic scale, atom and ion trapping microsystems, and electrochemical deposition expertise. In addition to work for internal Sandia organizations, we have an established record of successful engagement, collaboration, and delivery to both internal and external customers. The department leverages strong relationships with the Microsystems Engineering Sciences and Applications (MESA) facility, the Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies (CINT), and other internal and external organizations to develop advanced microsystem technologies.

Security Clearance:
