Position Summary

The primary purpose of the Research Nurse Manager position is to plan, direct, coordinate, and evaluate clinical treatment of research protocols conducted within the CRU (Clinical Research Unit). Manages overall operations, strategic planning, budgeting, quality assurance and administration of activities and personnel that impact research protocols and protocol patients, as well as development of assigned staff. Assures quality nursing care by managing adequate staffing levels and skills mix for the Clinical Research Unit. Supports the in-patient clinical research demands by collaborating and providing clinical research educational support as needed. Provides excellent customer service. Maintains compliance with regulatory requirements including tracking and trending quality indicators. Evaluates individual employees’ performance by coaching, mentoring and taking corrective actions and discipline when appropriate. Maintains fiscal accountability and budget neutrality; Communicates openly to the upper management and to staff. Provides leadership to achieve the hospital's mission, vision and direction for the future.

Key Responsibilities include:

Patient Care and Clinical Quality

  • Establish standards for patient care to assure patient care is timely, safe and effective
  • Assure satisfaction of patients, physicians and other customers with care and services that are delivered.
  • Develop and foster collaborative relationships with other departments to support safe and high quality patient care and services
  • Assure regulatory standards are met
  • Measure performance of staff to meet regulatory and patient care standards
  • Report results of ongoing quality metrics as appropriate.
  • Promote the utilization of evidence based practice in delivery of patient care.
  • Support and facilitate critical thinking of staff.

Staff Management

  • Recruit and maintain adequate number and competent staff to provide care and meet patient care standards
  • Assure and facilitate the orientation and ongoing development and education of staff
  • Assure staff have current licenses, certifications and are competent to provide care.
  • Manage and lead staff to develop collaborative working relationships within department and with other departments as applicable.
  • Collaborates with human resources to provide counseling or performance improvement of staff as needed.

Planning and goal setting

  • Manage and implement departmental programs and goals that support the strategic plan for the organization and for patient care services
  • Support departmental implementation of new technology and services.
  • Effectively communicate (written & oral) across the organization.

Fiscal and Budget

  • Assists the Director with development of the annual budget.

Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience, and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • 3-5 years in oncology nursing
  • 1-2 years supervisory experience

Required Certification/Licensure:

  • California Registered Nurse licensure

Preferred education, experience, and skills:

  • Master’s Degree preferred
  • OCN or AOCN
  • Clinical Research; 2-5 years supervisory experience

Additional Information:

As a condition of employment, City of Hope requires staff to comply with all state and federal vaccination mandates.

  • Job Status: Full-Time; 40 hours

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $57.71 - $96.38 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
