Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

The PM Head of Clinical Biomarker Leads for Infectious Disease clinical translational medicine biomarker experts within ECD Precision Medicine function.  As head, he/she must contribute and lead the translational strategy for infectious disease portfolio from idea through registration.   The Head of ID Translational medicine leads will build and sustain an effective internal and external network, including the management of key stakeholders, as part of the promotion and implementation of this vision and mission, and serve as the internal champion for maximizing both the scientific benefit of biomarkers in internal decision making, patient selection and differentiation. The Head of PM ID Translational Medicine Leads should be recognized (internally and/or externally) as a translational biomarker subject matter expert.  In addition, he/she should demonstrate executive presence, and be an effective negotiator, relationship manager and communicator across both WRDM and GPD cross-functional lines. This position may also oversee a variety of external specialty biomarker vendor and/or academic contracts as it pertains to biomarkers and/or access to biospecimens.  The head will also be accountable for biomarker sections of ID asset targeted product profiles, biomarker and diagnostic related regulatory filings, label claims and biomarker driven innovative registration paths.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the single point of contact (SPOC) from Precision Medicine to the Infectious Disease (ID) business units.
  • Supervises ID Translational Medicine leads.
  • Develops a motivated, innovative, and productive work environment, with a strong reputation for accountability and delivery of PM strategies to support POM/SOCA, patient selection, label claims, surveillance/microbiological registration packages and commercial differentiation.  Manages team talent and mentoring for direct reports
  • Accountable for ensuring direct reports complete the translational plan in asset clinical development plans.  Contributes and reviews clinical protocols, clinical development plans, health agency submission documents, lab manuals, commercial differentiation strategies and informed consent language specific to biomarkers. 
  • Accountable for on-time delivery of biomarker/microbiological assays and data to support portfolio decision-making
  • Assembles and leads collaborative biomarker sub-teams, made up of cross-functional colleagues with relevant technical, research, or clinical expertise, to operationalize biomarker strategy
  • Responsible for compliance around clinical biospecimen management and vendor oversight
  • Shares learnings with key stakeholders and the scientific community through presentations and peer-reviewed publications.
  • Works with biomarker clinical teams to interpret biomarker results in the context of the clinical study
  • Serves on protocol review committees to review study protocols.
  • Builds a collaborative network both internally and externally to execute biomarker strategies across the business segment
  • Manage the need for continuous innovation and change in both internal and external environments with flexibility but clear intent including high risk workstreams.
  • Champion internal and external ideas to key organizational bodies through presentations and compelling business cases; and establish performance metrics for the resulting internal goals and/or broader Pfizer initiatives
  • Is a recognized subject matter expert (internally and externally) on precision medicine strategies as they relate to InI asset portfolio.
  • Is accountable for precision medicine strategies from Candidate seeking through registration and post-marketing commitments
  • Able to articulate to senior leaders and external stakeholders and drive precision medicine strategies across the portfolio

Qualifications.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  •  PhD, MD, MD/PhD and/or PharmD preferred.  MS considered if 15+ experience and demonstrated leadership skills.

Primary

  • 15+ years of experience in pharmaceutical discovery, all biomarker technologies and/or exploratory clinical research
  • Background and applied experience in regulated and non-regulated biomarker technologies including genomics, proteomics, mass spectrometry, ligand binding immunoassay and flow cytometry.
  • Experience working with cross-functional clinical study teams and executive leadership to deliver asset and platform specific translational biomarker strategies.
  • Able to work cross-functionally to develop solutions to complex, innovative and potentially high risk translational issues within and beyond category area expertise.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in a rapidly changing organizational environment with many diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated teambuilding, relationship-management, negotiating and talent management skills
  • Demonstrated written and communication skills Good external presence and network, with a solid track record of scientific publications, external presentations, and effective external collaborations
  • Solid track record of effectively working and communicating in a fast-paced environment with multi-disciplinary scientists, researchers and non-scientists, both internally and externally
  • Good executive presence, with a demonstrated ability to influence senior internal and external leaders through all forms of communication
  • Good understanding of business processes and decision making across the pharmaceutical R&D continuum, but especially in discovery and human exploratory research

Preferred

  • Working knowledge of a broad range of biomarker technologies and an understanding of validation requirements, implementation into clinical trials and interpretation of multi-variate pharmacogenomics and/or biomarker data
  • Basic knowledge of disease pathophysiology in the following areas: Virology, microbiology.
  • Some understanding of development of diagnostic assay development and regulation requirements.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
