Job Description

Summary

The Echeverria laboratory studies molecular evolution of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) therapy resistance and metastasis. The focus of the lab is to delineate the metabolic and molecular evolution of TNBC using state-of-the art patient-derived xenograft mouse models and in vitro mouse- and patient-derived organoids. The lab utilizes functional genomics approaches, single-cell technologies, multiplexed tissue imaging, and metabolomics with the ultimate goal of combating tumor evolution to improve the lives of women living with TNBC.
 

We are seeking highly self-motivated individuals to provide research support, technical assistance, and lab organization. The laboratory’s work involves cell lines and state-of-the-art mouse models. 
Projects include dissection of the molecular underpinnings tumor cell-microenvironment interactions as they pertain to therapy resistance and metabolic adaptations of therapy-resistant tumor cells, as well as single cell analyses of primary and metastatic TNBCs.

Job Duties

  • Prepares and conducts laboratory research experiments involving mice, mammalian cell culture and molecular biology.
  • Collects, compiles and analyzes data.
  • Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
  • Selects, evaluates and applies techniques used in routine research.
  • Orders laboratory supplies.
  • Completes Goods Receipt via SRM/SAP.
  • Plans and organizes administrative operations of the laboratory.
  • Communicates with facilities, cores, EH&S and vendors within and outside of BCM to ensure smooth running of the laboratory.
  • Participates in the development of laboratory grant budgets; the overseeing of expenditures of grant monies; performing SAP/SRM functions.
  • Interprets rules, regulations, and policies for faculty and laboratory staff and ensures compliance.
  • Coordinates procurements of equipment and supplies and manages all stages of the acquisition cycle.
  • Establishes procedures for management of the use of laboratory equipment including maintenance, repair, and inventory.
  • Manages receipt and shipping samples in accordance with various IRB protocols and  shipping regulations.
  • Assists with onboarding of new laboratory members.
     

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cancer research preferred.
  • Experienced in mouse husbandry and maintenance of mouse breeding colony.
  • Prior experiences in tissue culture and basic molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR, DNA purification, Western blot, DNA/RNA/Protein manipulation from cell line/tissue/Blood… etc) are required.
  • Must be a team player and work well within a group. 
  • The individual should be self-motivated and enjoy being highly organized, detail-oriented, communicative, and collaborative. The individual should enjoy contributing to ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the laboratory. The lab provides an interactive and stimulating scientific environment and opportunities for growth.
