Summary

A Research technician position is available in the laboratory of George Rodney, Ph.D. in the Department of Integrative Physiology at Baylor College of Medicine.  The lab uses molecular biology and biochemical techniques, confocal fluorescent imaging, fluorescent detection of ROS production, whole-cell patch clamping, immuno-fluorescence imaging, in-vivo electroporation of cDNA constructs, and in-vitro force measurements to assess sub-cellular ROS production, Ca2+ signaling, and excitation-contraction coupling, in skeletal muscle.  Proficient in computer skills that includes Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. One-year of experience with the care and handling of mouse models and experience with biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. Has attention to detail, excellent communication and organizational skills, and an ability to work as a member of a team is critical.

Job Duties

  • Assists with general lab maintenance and order supplies.
  • Maintains animal colonies, cares, and handles mice.
  • Assists with biochemical and molecular biological assays in support of lab personnel.
  • Harvests tissues and muscle contractile properties.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Two years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with the care and handling of mouse models and experience with biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. 
  • Be proficient in computer skills that includes Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Has excellent communication and organizational skills, attention to detail and has the ability to work as a member of a team is critical.
