Summary

The laboratory of Dr. Jiandong Chen at Moffitt Cancer Center Department of Molecular Oncology conducts basic research to understand the p53 tumor suppressor pathway and development of novel therapeutic strategies to target p53 for cancer therapy. The lab routinely performs mechanistic studies of protein expression, function, and reguation in response to novel drugs and stress treatments using cell culture and mouse models. The lab has extensive collaborations with chemists and structural biologists working in drug discovery, providing a rich environment for training and career development.

Position Highlights:

  • Analysis of novel compounds from chemistry collaborators.
  • Use mouse models to investigate efficacy of novel cancer drugs.
  • Cell culture, CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, creation of stable and inducible cell lines.
  • Provides training in multiple techniques required by the projects.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience with cell culture and bacteria culture.
  • Experience with Western blot, PCR, RT-PCR, FACS.
  • Experience with recombinant DNA techniques.
  • Experience with mouse xenograft models or genetically modified mice.
  • Proficient in calculating drug molar concentrations.

Responsibilities:

  • Cell culture and drug treatment.
  • Analysis of samples by Western blot, RT-PCR.
  • Molecular cloning, plasmid purification.
  • Recombinant protein expression in bacteria and purification.
  • Perform transfection, reporter assays.
  • Maintain mouse strains by PCR genotyping.
  • Generation and treatment of tumor xenografts.
  • Preparation of buffers and solutions.

Credentials and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology or related field is required.
  • Hands on research experience required.
