Position Summary

A Staff Scientist position in the Department of Hematologic Malignancies Translational Science of City of Hope is available under the supervision of Flavia Pichiorri, Ph.D., M.S., Amrita Krishnan, M.D., and John Williams, Ph.D. The Staff Scientist series is designed for career research professionals whose primary function is to support the research infrastructure and activities of the institution. Staff Scientists will bring special skills, knowledge, and experience to research programs or institutional core laboratories. The ideal candidate will have experience in cancer immunology, tumor-microenvironment interactions, fluorescent immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, cell culture, and interpretation of RNA-seq data. The candidate will mainly focus on the development of novel therapeutic interventions for both myeloma and leukemia.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

The Staff Scientist must possess, at a minimum, the U.S. equivalent Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline, and will often have a Ph.D. or other doctoral level degree.

Preferred education, experience and skills required for consideration:

• Ph.D. degree in immunology or cancer cell biology with at least 4 years of experience.
• Experience in basic immunology and molecular biology techniques including flow cytometry analysis, cloning, ELISA, cell culturing, etc.
• Basic mouse handling and breeding.
• Mouse retro-orbital and/or tail vein injections.
• Ability to effectively lead other scientists in a translational research environment to successfully meet deadlines and perform and prioritize simultaneous.
• Requires use of discretion and judgment when handling confidentialinformation.
• Ability to design and execute experiments, critically interpret experimental results, and present data in a cogent and meaningful manner.
• Candidate be industrious, has sound technical skills and capable drafting grants,proposals, study protocols and manuscripts.
• Under minimal direction of the Principal Investigator, directs the work of a laboratory including supervision of technical lab staff and is responsible for the development and execution of major research projects and performs state-of-the-art, complex research projects in collaboration with the other researchers, making significant, original contributions to research methods, including authorship or co-authorship of published findings.
• Ensures that all laboratory activities are carried out in compliance with eachprocedure(s) by utilizing safety procedures and guidelines in handling, storage and disposal of bio-hazardous, infectious and toxic material.
