Job Description

Summary

The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children's Hospital is looking for an enthusiastic Research Technician to work and contribute to novel translational projects as we advance our understanding in the pathology in critically ill children such as in the field of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome, sepsis, and cirrhotic cardiomyopathy.

Job Duties

  • Performs and contributes responsibly to the research work that requires planning and completing research projects in accordance with general plans approved by the team of investigators.
  • Contributes to the current projects on going in the lab that includes: 
    • Pathophysiologic basis for sepsis-induced multi organ dysfunction syndrome (including sepsis-induced:  diaphragm dysfunction, disseminated microvascular thrombosis, and pathologic immune activation)
    • Establishing a link between bile acids and cardiomyopathy.
  • Participates, designs, and conducts in vitro, and animal research experiments.
  • Selects and determines appropriate research procedures.
  • Analyzes clot's structure and function.
  • Processes tissues for proteins and RNA.
  • Works on molecular analysis that includes Western Blot and QRTPCR.
  • Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment and environment.
  • Documents and interprets results of experiments and reports to principal investigators.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Be flexible with change, good at multi-tasking and problem-solving.
  • Has strong organizational skills, prioritization skills, time management skills, and attention to detail.
  • Be able to work effectively as part of a dynamic team involved in basic and clinical research.
