Job Description

Positions are available in the McCarty laboratory in the Department of Neurosurgery and the Brain Tumor Center at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center. The projects will involve basic research in the cell biology of the CNS microenvironment, including studies about how astrocyte-derived factors regulate the development and functions of the neurovascular unit/blood-brain barrier. The post-doc will receive training and mentoring in the use of genetically engineered mouse models and in vitro co-culture systems to study adhesion and signaling pathways important for astroglial-endothelial cell contact and communication. The long-term translational research goal is to manipulate these pathways to improve drug delivery to treat CNS diseases such as cancer.

All applicants should have a PhD and/or MD as well as peer-reviewed publications in internationally recognized journals. A strong background in biochemistry, molecular biology, and cell biology is preferred.
