The TAP initiative ensures that the Office of Philanthropy is poised to move quickly, effectively and efficiently to maximize opportunities on behalf of City of Hope.

This position is part of City of Hope’s Prospect Development Office within the Office of Philanthropy, and reports to the Associate Vice President of Philanthropy Information Solutions (AVP). This position will work closely with colleagues on the Philanthropy Information Solutions team, within Philanthropy as a whole and, as appropriate, with the broader City of Hope community as we seek philanthropic support to fulfill City of Hope’s bold mission. The Senior Executive Director of Prospect Development leads prospect research, transformative gifts research, and prospect management teams and is responsible for overseeing and managing three teams of staff who provide prospect research and prospect management in support of the Office of Philanthropy at City of Hope.

Through research, identification, tracking, data acquisition and analysis, the Senior Executive Director of ProspectDevelopment deepens City of Hope’s institutional knowledge of its prospects by playing a vital role in helping the Office of Philanthropy meet its goals for prospecting, fundraising, engagement, communications, and stewardship. In partnership with the AVP and other leadership, the Senior Director of Prospect Development establishes the strategic vision, standards, and goals of the three teams and leads the development and implementation of best practices in support of a sophisticated, state-of-the-art prospect research and management shop.

The Senior Executive Director ensures that all products are consistently produced, of the highest quality, and meets philanthropy staff’s needs for strategic planning.

Key Responsibilities include:

Department Leadership/Oversight:

  • Provide leadership and supervision for three departments consisting of at least 11 prospect research and prospect management staff and ensure that each provides a high level of service to all stakeholders and works collaboratively to meet City of Hope goals.
  • Ensure work is balanced across teams and team is appropriately staffed to exceed the needs of OOP
  • Guide the team to be more revenue focused and engaged in revenue generating activity
  • Mentor and coach direct reports and indirect reports
  • Implement policies and activities that deliver an engaged and highly-functioning team.
  • Provide guidance on best practices according to department guidelines, past experience/expertise, and industry standards.
  • In collaboration with the AVP, determine the strategic vision for the department, including short- and long-term staffing and growth plans; develop, socialize, and implement current and long-range program plans and operational goals in cooperation with the short- and long-term strategic plan.
  • Ensure that prospect research and prospect management products meet the highest standards of analysis and factual accuracy; proof/edit materials produced for distribution while maintaining scrupulous attention to matters of discretion and confidentiality.
  • Ensure the teams provide adequate coverage for all areas across OOP.
  • Partner with the Philanthropy BI team to lead the development of maps, reports, dashboards, and other tools to provide revealing views of potential prospects and enable informed decisions that lead to increased revenue.
  • Partner with the AVP of Philanthropy Information Solutions and meet regularly with leadership of each OOP department to ensure alignment of goals and activities, assess evolving needs for prospect management and research products, collaborate on policy adoption and enhancement, and review department-level KPIs and provide feedback as well as recommend course corrections, as necessary, to help ensure targets are achieved.
  • Partner with the IS team to ensure that Access Hope is optimized to meet the needs of OOP with an emphasis on those of the PR/PM teams.
  • Ensure team maintains healthy balance of proactive and reactive work.
  • Ensure team provides support for and collaborates with colleagues at affiliate locations, eg TGEN and OC
  • Work on special projects as assigned by the AVP of Philanthropy Information Solutions and other leaders across OOP.

Prospect Management:

  • Under the guidance of the AVP, provide leadership on the development, socialization, implementation, and adoption of OOP-wide policies and procedures that assist in the efficient management and coordination of all activities related to prospect management.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, enhancement, and management of a data-driven prospect management and tracking program to help guide the identification, assignment, cultivation, and solicitation of prospective donors in an organized and timely way
  • Ensure all portfolios meet high quality standards and provide fundraisers with viable prospects and strategic recommendations around portfolio maintenance
  • Ensure that portfolios are analyzed on a regular basis and provide fundraisers feedback and guidance on portfolios
  • Monitor prospect pool and help to make recommendations on staffing needs for front line fundraising units

Prospect Research:

  • Under the guidance of the AVP of Philanthropy Information Solutions, provide leadership for the development, socialization, implementation, and adoption of OOP-wide policies and procedures that assist in the efficient management and coordination of all activities related to prospect research.
  • Respond in a timely manner to research inquiries which may include financial assets, potential for philanthropic support, business and professional affiliations, areas of interest and other Hospital affiliations
  • Build out and maintain a suite of standardized research products (research request types) and ensure that the products maintain the highest level of accuracy and professionalism
  • Ensure the development of a robust pipeline of prospects across all philanthropy departments in order to meet ambitious fundraising goals
  • Ensure that our data capture on all viable prospects is as robust as possible and core fields are filled out and optimized.
  • Develop and help to lead the team’s efforts around providing actionable intelligence to fundraisers that will move their relationships forward with their prospects and help to bring in more dollars in the door.
  • Collaborate with the AVP and lead the Prospect Development team in the department's efforts to develop innovative and scalable approaches to extracting, analyzing, capturing and managing data

Serve as a role model for the Office of Philanthropy. Includes:

  • Act as spokesperson for City of Hope activities as requested.
  • Participate in search committees, task forces and other special projects.
  • Demonstrate an ability to solve problems, overcome hurdles, and navigate sensitive issues with discretion, tact and strong communication skills.
  • Develop and maintain productive relationships with City of Hope faculty and staff to support fundraising initiatives for COH priorities.
  • Possess thorough knowledge of the key fund-raising priorities for COH.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • 10+ years of management experience in prospect development; combination of advanced degree and 7 years of experience may substitute
  • Bachelor’s degree

Software:

  • Microsoft Office, Blackbaud CRM, Tableau

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $61.24 - $102.27 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
