About the Position:

The Lead Business Analyst is part of City of Hope’s Information Solutions Team within the Office of Philanthropy. Under general supervision of the Director, Solutions Management, this position actively collaborates with Office of Philanthropy stakeholders and teams to build effective software solutions via strong communication skills and change management techniques. This position is responsible for understanding Philanthropy’s business domain, documenting its processes, and assessing the business model’s integration with technology. This includes developing and maintaining a repository of organizational and tactical objectives, process documentation, and key performance indicators. The Lead Business Analyst routinely reviews and analyzes business processes, workflow procedures, and job functions to provide insight and suggestions for improvements. This position leads and participates in medium to large system related projects to develop a business case during project initiation, identifies business needs and develops functional requirements as well as assist in change management strategies for adoption of new systems or system enhancements and upgrades throughout the system’s project life cycle. In addition, this position creates prototypes for system design and develops testing validation requirements for system testing.

Key Responsibilities include:
Solution Architecture/Design:

  • Leads initiatives to optimize current Philanthropy solution functionality by working with assigned Business Analysts and stakeholders.
  • Facilitates design and validation sessions.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves problems, including the resolution of technical problems as needed, on an ongoing basis as they relate to the execution of project or program objectives.
  • Develops solutions for business process improvements and system enhancements. Facilitates solution review and sign off from stakeholders. Develops documentation of new business processes.
  • Maintains in-depth understanding of stakeholders’ business, which will allow for proactively offering business process improvements and solutions to improve efficiency.
  • Maintains professional growth and development and stays current on the latest trends in area of expertise through participation in educational programs, review of current literature, and attending meetings and workshops.

Technical Application:

  • Actively participates in design, development and testing of the Philanthropy project lifecycle.
  • Provides technical direction and best practices to be followed by the team.
  • Mentors, trains, and acts as SME to software engineers and business analysts, where needed.
  • Leads the technical analysis, design, development, testing, implementation and post-implementation support of Philanthropy’s systems.
  • Participates in or leads projects to upgrade or enhance Philanthropy’s systems.

Project Management:

  • Acts as project manager for all aspects of individual projects (e.g., solution analysis, user experience design, information architecture and content strategy, front and back-end development, technical implementation, testing and quality assurance), serving as primary point-of-contact to stakeholders for related work.
  • Acts as liaison with stakeholders and project team members regarding changes to scope and delivery dates, providing regular reports and project dashboards to leadership.
  • Establishes relationships with stakeholders to determine project requirements, and creates proposals that reconcile stakeholder requirements with service scope and ensures proper setting of expectations (e.g., project goals, scope, participant responsibilities, delivery dates, governance).
  • Develops detailed project work plans, timelines and budget (if applicable). Maintains project assignments, monitors workloads, and resources to meet project requirements. Frequently reassess project scope to ensure projects are carried out according to established plan and budget.
  • Utilizes influencing skills to align with stakeholders’ practices (project management, risk management, etc.), strategies (metrics, goals, outcomes, strategic priorities), and utilizing tactics (negotiation skills, triple constraint, business relationship management principles).

Product Management:

  • Is responsible for design, implementation, and on-going management of the Office of Philanthropy’s systems to engage prospects, donors and advocates for City of Hope.
  • Manages project interdependencies for various Philanthropy systems to optimize their delivery and make the most efficient use of resources and to improve adoption and communications.
  • Maintains high-level City of Hope enterprise system knowledge and expertise to serve as a Philanthropy point of contact for technical or functional requirements.
  • Maintains high-level Philanthropy industry knowledge and product expertise to assist in supporting Office of Philanthropy fundraising programmatic needs.

Customer Service:

  • Builds sustainable relationships and trust with key stakeholders through open and interactive collaboration.
  • Approaches each engagement with an above and beyond mindset.
  • Office of Philanthropy Role Model:
  • Acts as a spokesperson for City of Hope/Office of Philanthropy activities, as requested.
  • Participates in meetings, search committees, task forces, and other special projects.
  • Maintains a professional, positive image with executive staff, donors, prospects, gift officers, vendors, and other City of Hope employees.
  • Practices a high level of integrity and honesty in maintaining confidentiality.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems, Business, Computer Science or related discipline. Experience may substitute for minimum education requirements.
  • 8+ years of business analysis or consulting experience. 5 years of project management or consulting experience. Project lead responsibilities for at least two (2) large multi-user system implementations. 5+ years of experience in Use Case diagramming, Business Process Mapping, Sequence and Activity diagramming, and UML required. Experience using SQL or similar query language. Experience working with large data set.

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Master’s in information technology or similar area preferred
