Position Summary

Under the supervision of the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, the Executive Director has responsibility for City of Hope’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Program, related teams, and supportive resources. The Executive Director of the ERM Program helps establish the overall risk management processes, policies, and risk performance measures to guide City of Hope as an enterprise consisting of inpatient and outpatient clinical services, basic science and clinical trial research activities, as well as affiliate entities and their services in driving consistent risk-based performance improvement, including minimizing key enterprise risks. The Executive Director will assess, plan, implement, manage, and coordinate all ERM activities at the City of Hope and its affiliates.

In this role, the Executive Director is responsible for the implementation, management and performance of the entire ERM Program – ensuring processes and systems are in place for establishing policies, procedures, other written standards, and appropriate training that will result in a productive approach for enterprise risk management in the various workstreams, projects, and strategic goal setting that occur within City of Hope’s enterprise. The Executive Director is expected to partner and collaborate with executives throughout City of Hope’s enterprise in establishing and executing on risk monitoring plans and overseeing the completion of needed risk management and mitigation activities. The Executive Director will also report findings and status to executive management and the Risk, Audit, & Compliance Committee of the Board, as well as other committees as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities include:

Maintain and Manage ERM Function and Operations

Under the supervision of the Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, directs ERM personnel/function in the planning, organizing, directing, and monitoring of ERM operations. Regularly evaluates overall quality, productivity, efficiency and effectiveness of ERM processes, tools, and “client” deliverables through key metrics and internal quality reviews.

Risk Advisory Services

Proactively initiate ideas to advise management on risk management activities and leading practice to help integrate risk management into strategic decision making across all City of Hope’s functions. This position will interface with all leaders responsible for risk accountability and therefore, this position is not limited to only a clinical risk management perspective. Strategic and Operational risks, as well as Financial Risks are included in the portfolio of risks engaged through the Enterprise Risk Management program.

Internal Audit

Partners with Executive Director of Internal Audit to share results of annual ERM assessments of City of Hope’s enterprise risk profile and strategies for managing and mitigating this enterprise risk profile.

Committee Leadership and Participation

Collaborate, interact, and work in conjunction with not only executive management but also management and board committees with oversight responsibilities for risk management within City of Hope’s enterprise. This includes the Ethics and Compliance Executive Committee (ECEC) and the Board of Directors’ Risk, Audit, and Compliance (RAC) Committee, as well as other committees as appropriate.

Education/Inservices

Presents periodic routine orientation for City of Hope leadership regarding healthcare and research risk management and related subjects to enhance awareness of their role in reducing risk exposures.

Basic education, experience and skills required for consideration:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Business or related field
  • At least ten (10) years’ experience in enterprise risk management, including 7 years of prior management level responsibility in enterprise risk management and/or public or private consultancy services with a focus on healthcare organizations.

Preferred education experience and skills:

  • Appropriate graduate-level degree
  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration, with a Finance and/or Healthcare focus preferred

Salary / Pay Rate Information:
Pay Rate: $83.48 - $139.41 / hour

The estimated pay scale represents the typical [salary/hourly] range City of Hope reasonably expects to pay for this position, with offers determined based on several factors which may include, but not be limited to, the candidate’s experience, expertise, skills, education, job scope, training, internal equity, geography/market, etc. This pay scale is subject to change from time to time.
