Job Description

The Intellectual Property and Technology Portfolio Manager will be responsible for technical administration of Argonne’s intellectual property assets, including patents, copyrights, and related technology and research capabilities. They will support and assist the Innovation and Commercialization Managers and Argonne Legal Department with inventions and copyrights disclosure submissions, reviews, assessments, and decisions. They will work with Argonne’s researchers to obtain information to evaluate, protect, and commercialize Argonne’s IP assets, and assists with patent and market searches. The Intellectual Property and Technology Portfolio Manager will also manage intellectual property and technology databases, gathers and updates patent assessment information, taxonomy, identifies IP and technology portfolios for potential commercialization or licensing. They will track licensing status of intellectual property and inventors and authors of joint intellectual property to support licensing and inter-institutional agreement negotiations. They will coordinate with contract administration on intellectual property involved in materials transfer agreements, sponsored research agreements, and other commercialization contracting processes.

Position Requirements

  • Intellectual property development or management experience in scientific or technical institution.
  • Familiarity with technology transfer or intellectual property licensing practices.
  • Detail-oriented with analytical, organizational and communication skills.
  • Works effectively in cross-functional teams, manages by influence.
  • Experience in working under pressure with competing deadlines and priorities, maintaining integrity and confidentiality of information.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Excel proficiency, data management and organization experience, database familiarity
  • B.S. degree in physical sciences or engineering or related professional experience and training is preferred.

The selected candidate will be placed at the appropriate level (PT2 or PT3) depending upon depth and breadth of relevant knowledge, skills, and experience brought to the position.
