The Department of Otolaryngology is seeking candidates for an Advanced Practice Provider (APP) to function as an independent practitioner with the support of our physicians. They will provide comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients. The individual will provide patient/family education and will be expected to participate in teaching. This is a full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 hours/week), Monday-Friday position.
Essential Functions
Perform appropriate history and physical for complex, acute, critical, and chronically ill patients.
Order and interpret diagnostic and therapeutic tests.
Prescribe appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatment modalities.
Monitor the effectiveness of interventions.
Maintain accurate medical records.
Collaborate with other providers and members of the health care team in delivery of care and make appropriate referrals when needed.
Educate patients and families about medical conditions and treatment plans.
Facilitate staff, patient, and family decision making using evidence-based practice.
Participate in research and development projects.
Participate in education of nurse practitioners, nurse practitioner students and medical students.
Perform related duties based on departmental need. This job description can be changed at any time.
Required Education
For Nurse Practitioner:
Master’s Degree in Nursing and graduation from an ANA approved Nurse Practitioner Program.

For Physician Assistant:
Professional Degree.
Graduation from a Physician Assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessor agencies.

Required Trainings/Certifications
For Nurse Practitioner:
Current/valid RN and APN license/license eligible to practice in the state of Ohio.
May require certification in corresponding specialty.

For Physician Assistant:
Certification as a Physician Assistant by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Must be licensed/license eligible in the State of Ohio with prescriptive authority.
Required Experience
For Nurse Practitioner:
Three (3) years nursing experience.
Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

For Physician Assistant:
A minimum of one year PA experience.
Additional related work experience may be required depending on specialty/sub-specialty.

Additional Qualifications Considered
For Nurse Practitioner- Advanced Practice Psychiatric Nurse:
Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) http://www.nursecredentialing.org/Certification in Psychiatric Mental Health as Psychiatric-Mental Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (PMHCNS-BC) or Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC). Candidates must be eligible and willing to sit for the examination.

For Physician Assistant:
Certificate of Added Qualifications (CAQ) in Psychiatry http://www.nccpa.net/psychiatry. Candidates must be eligible and willing to sit for the examination.
