Summary
Texas Children’s Hospital Center for Vaccine Development (TCH-CVD) at Baylor College of Medicine is one of the leading vaccine development centers in the world developing low-cost effective vaccines against neglected tropical and emerging diseases that can be used in low- and middle-income countries. We are currently looking for a Senior Research Assistant to support the assay development, protein characterization and quality control activities for several vaccine candidates against neglected and emerging infectious diseases. We are looking for a highly skilled and motivated researcher with interest and expertise in protein science and protein chemistry.
Job Duties
- Generic Duties:
- TCH-CVD at Baylor College of Medicine is one of the leading vaccine development centers in the world developing low-cost effective vaccines against neglected tropical and emerging diseases that can be used in low- and middle-income countries. This center consists of different functional units and the primary purpose of this position is to work in the Analytical Development and Quality Control (AD/QC) unit at the center for vaccine development and provide technical assistance, e.g., conducting experiments and maintaining the instruments.
- Specific Duties:
- Understands and has experiences in protein characterization
- Understands the use of instruments, e.g., HPLC, CD, BLI, UV/Vis spectrophotometer, densitometer etc., in the lab.
- Maintains lab instruments and arranges instrument installation, qualification, repair, preventive maintenance, etc.
- Maintains clean equipment and work area.
- Assists in the preparation of laboratory reports and presentations.
- Retrieves, washes, dries, sterilizes and redistributes laboratory glassware.
- Maintains the laboratory instruments; contacts vendors for instrument troubleshooting.
- Designs individual experiments to develop robust assays.
- Maintains inventory of all materials and supplies within the laboratory unit and directly communicates any needs/issues with the Laboratory Director.
- Assists in training new staff on Standard Operating Procedures and Laboratory Protocols within the laboratory unit.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field.
- Four years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or higher in a related field.
- Expertise in protein characterization.
- Experiences with SDS-PAGE, HPLC, UV/Vis, OPA assay, BCA assay, ELISA, BLI and etc.
