Summary

Baylor Medicine, Department of Orthopedic Surgery and Sports Medicine is looking for a highly motivated Athletic Trainer. We are seeking a qualified and outgoing AT to work in a contracted Secondary School environment as a Senior Head Athletic Trainer. We are seeking an AT who is willing to provide high-quality AT Services to High School and Middle School aged student-athletes to include but not limited to plan, coordinate and supervise all components of the athletic training program for student athletes to prevent, recognize, assess, manage, treat, and recondition athletic injuries and illnesses. 

 

This position is located at Second Baptist School covering Grades 8th to 12th.

 

The ideal candidate will have:
Applied Knowledge: Athletic trainers must have knowledge about a large range of medical problems. Assessment and evaluation skills and working with other healthcare professionals will be needed. 
Decision-Making Skills: Ability to think critically and make independent decisions regarding the assessment, treatment, rehabilitation and return to play decisions per state licensure guidelines.
Attention to Detail: should be thorough and detailed with injury tracking and documentation.
Interpersonal Skills: Ability to communicate effectively in high stress/pressure situation when talking to patients, medical professionals, staff and families.
Must have the ability to organize, prioritize and perform multiple tasks with no supervision.
Highly organized and able to prioritize assignments.

 

Work is medium demand. Lifting 60 pounds with frequent lifting and/or carrying of objects. Medium strength is required to assist moving patients as needed. Must be able to work in outdoor conditions.

Job Duties

  • Develops plans and schedule for athletic training coverage at all interscholastic athletic events and practices provided by athletic department.
  • Establishes daily hours of operation and daily schedule for the athletic training facility and employed athletic trainers .
  • Provides on and off field evaluations, establishes plans of care, and selects appropriate treatment and rehabilitation interventions. 
  • Effectively communicates with patient, family, coaches, and staff regarding patient’s ability to return to activity and plan of care.
  • Has daily communication with coaching staff and coworkers in regards to student-athlete injuries, treatment plans, and goals.
  • Performs proper daily documentation of injuries, treatment rendered, treatment plan, athletes current participation status, and goals.
  • Oversees and organizes treatment of student-athlete on site during practices and in athletic training room.
  • Establishes and maintains a budget for athletic training supplies/equipment with assistant athletic trainer.
  • Maintains comprehensive venue and condition specific emergency action plans.
  • Initiates and administers an athletic training student-aide program in accordance with the school’s clubs and activities guidelines and state law.
  • Establishes a working relationship with a designated team physician, sports medicine team, and school nursing staff.
  • Completes (school systems) policies training to include: Blood Borne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan training and comply with the TAPPS (Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools) regulations therein.
  • Maintains adequate medical records on all injuries and rehabilitation procedures per TAPPS regulations.
  • Complies with any and all policies regarding health care delivery as indicated by the school systems regulations, and outlined in TAPPS Athletic Injury Management section of the school’s athletic training program policies and procedures manual.
  • Develops coach’s professional development for CPR/AED, Concussion, Heat Illness, Sudden Cardiac Death, Sickle Cell, and other courses required by TAPPS.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
  • Seven years of relevant experience as an Athletic Trainer.
  • State Licensed Athletic Trainer by The Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related field.
  • BOC Certified Athletic Trainer. 
  • CPR/AED Certification for the Professional Rescuer/Healthcare Provider.
  • Previous Head Athletic Training position.
  • NPI Number
