Job Description
Summary
The Fuqua Lab in the Lester and Sue Smith Breast Center is seeking a Research Technician II to investigate metastatic breast cancer. The Research Technician will be proficient with various molecular biology techniques such as ChIP-PCR, IP, qRT-PCR, western blotting, FACS. They will also have extensive cell culture experience and be willing to learn new techniques as the projects develop. This is a full-time, in-person research position.
Job Duties
- Collects, compiles, and analyzes data.
- Conducts literature searches and summarizes information in an appropriate format for a particular study.
- Documents results of experiments.
- Selects, evaluates, and applies techniques used in routine research.
- Orders laboratory supplies via SRM.
- Completes Goods receipts in SAP.
- Cleans lab equipment & monitor inventory.
- Performs experiments using cellular and molecular biology techniques.
- Prepares figures and assists in writing reports related to experiments performed.
- Oversees the maintenance of lab equipment, inventory, and environment.
- Performs experiments using molecular biology technologies.
- Performs mammalian cell culture.
- Performs qRT-PCR, ChIP–PCR, IP, western blotting and FACS with detailed record keeping.
- Participates in lab meetings and reads applicable literature.
- Prepares figures and assists in writing related to experiments performed.
- Maintains lab supplies and inventory (ordering, stocking, preparing solutions/media).
- Maintains general lab environment that includes but not limited to, equipment maintenance and repairs, organization, and cleanliness of the lab.
- Maintains and ensures compliance with biosafety and laboratory regulations.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
- One year of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a related field.
- Experience in molecular biology, excellent aseptic technique and general skills common to a molecular biology lab is desirable.
- Experience in cancer research and ChIP-PCR.
- Experience using animal (mouse) models in cancer research is a plus.
- Has strong documentation and organizational skills with the ability to keep accurate records of all work performed.
- Has good analytical and computer skills.
- Demonstrates willingness to learn new techniques with instruction.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic, including ability to take initiative, prioritize tasks, use good judgment and complete duties.
- Demonstrates ability to work both independently and as a team member.
