Job Description

Summary

Flow Cytometry Specialist I will perform both clinical and research flow cytometric analysis, fill out reports and maintain laboratory/office duties. The position includes 4 weekly rotations per month: 1) Early morning shift; 2) Mid-morning shift; 3) Night shift; and 4) Repeat of the first rotation. The position also includes rotating holiday shifts and the rotating night shift personnel is expected to analyze weekend samples if one arises.
 

Job Duties

  • Processes and tests specimen samples from bone marrow, blood, and various other tissues for analysis and diagnosis.
  • Counts and measures cells by utilizing a Flow Cytometer for optimum data acquisition, analysis, manipulation, validation, and quality control purposes.
  • Analyzes and prepares preliminary reports.
  • Records and labels specimen samples in log that includes patient demographic information.
  • Acquires and constantly maintains current knowledge of scientific research.
  • Maintains inventory of all reagents and supplies used in the flow cytometry laboratory.
  • Practices quality control procedures in order to produce accurate and valid results used in patient diagnosis and to ensure compliance with federal and organizational guidelines.
  • Performs routine maintenance on all instruments (e.g LWA, Canto II and Sysmex).
  • Participates in mandatory Personnel Training Documentation.
  • Maintains mandatory Continuing Education Credits (e.g. attending seminars or reading papers)
  • Attends QA Quarterly Meetings
  • Participates in CAP Competency Training
  • Annual cGMP/cGTP Regulations Quiz
  • Participates in mandatory TCH/Baylor Electronic Training

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical technology, chemical, biological, physical science or related field.
  • One year of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • One year of flow cytometry experience in a clinical research flow cytometry laboratory.
  • Familiarity with FACSCanto II flow cytometers and associated software.
  • Familiarity with BD FACS Lyse Wash Assistant (LWA).
  • Familiarity with Sysmex XP-300™ Automated Hematology Analyzer.
  • Familiarity with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP), associated documentation practices and CAP/CLIA standards.
  • Certification as a Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.
