Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

The Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division is seeking a successful candidate who will perform innovative research in the Interfacial Processes Group to understand molecular-scale processes occurring at aqueous-electrode interfaces associated with water purification in the AMEWS EFRC. This will be achieved through the use and application of various interfacial probes (e.g., synchrotron-based X-ray reflectivity, optical holographic interferometry, scanning probe microscopy). Work includes the experimental design, interpretation of data, and the presentation of results at scientific conferences and in peer-reviewed literature.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of probing interfacial reactivity through in-situ and operando approaches.  This can include synchrotron-based x-ray scattering techniques to probe structure and reactivity (e.g., coherent diffraction imaging, X-ray reflectivity) or the use of scanning probe and/or optical microscopy

  • Considerable knowledge of interfacial chemistry or materials science; experimental techniques in interfacial science; and mathematical techniques and computer programming for data analysis

  • Skill in working interactively and productively in a multidisciplinary environment

  • Oral and written communication and good record of publication and external recognition in relevant areas as well as maintenance of laboratory equipment

  • This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in interfacial chemistry, materials science at the Ph.D. degree level with zero to three years of experience or equivalent in the scientific application of this knowledge and practical laboratory experience

  • This position may require the ability to travel for work at out-of-state synchrotron facilities when required
