Job Description

The Nuclear Science and Engineering Division (NSE) is seeking a highly-motivated Nuclear Engineer to join the Advanced Nuclear Energy Systems group. The individual will perform neutronics and depletion calculations, software validation testing, and other studies to support nuclear reactor design and fuel cycle analyses. The individual will develop and execute applicable models and computational strategies, often working as part of an analysis team. Predictions of reactor characteristics, analyzing results, and utility tool scripting are key components of the work. Projects will include analyses related to sodium fast reactor design, LEU conversion of existing research reactors to the use of new fuel, and other new reactor design and reactor feasibility studies. The individual will be expected to document their work and prepare reports, presentations, and other documents for peer-reviewed publications. Collaboration with internal and external partners is an important aspect of the role.

Position Requirements

  • Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of fission reactor systems.

  • Experience with nuclear reactor design and analysis software, including model development, software execution, and results analysis.

  • Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems.

  • Knowledge of programming, including one or more scripting languages, is preferred.

  • Experience executing software in Linux environments and on computing clusters.

  • Experience with Software development and/or validation would be an asset.

  • Skills in the clear and effective oral and written communication of results.

  • Capable of working in a team, for collaborative interaction with co-workers and support personnel.

This level of knowledge is typically achieved through formal education in nuclear engineering or an associated field at the PhD level & 0+ years, Master’s level & 3+ years, or Bachelor's level & 5+ years of professional experience.
