Illinois Residency Requirement: This position requires Illinois residency within 180 calendar days of the start date.

The Assistant Ethanol Plant Research Engineer is responsible for supporting all phases of the National Corn-to-Ethanol Center (NCERC) operations including the laboratories, Fermentation Suite, and Pilot Plant. The selected candidate will:
-Support Research Engineers on capital upgrades and core equipment modifications;
-Assist Research Engineers and the Director of Research in running Fermentation Suite projects;
-Assist operations staff as needed in fulfilling client objectives;
-Help Laboratory Analysts in upkeep of equipment in Fermentation and Analytical Labs.

Furthermore, this position will work closely with senior personnel and clients to ensure all projects are successfully completed within a strict business confidentiality environment. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned based on the needs and goals of the Center and assigned clients.

Hours for this position may vary based on project need, some twelve (12) hour shift work may be required as will shifts alternating between days and nights. Weekends and some holidays may be necessary.

Located 20 miles from downtown St. Louis in University Park on the campus of Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, the National Corn-to-Ethanol Center (NCERC) supports a diverse clientele, including industry clients, academia, government, technology providers, trade associations, and domestic and foreign ethanol producers. Our capable, skilled staff offers third-party validation and commercial testing of products, technologies, concepts and ideas.

-Pilot Scale Ethanol Production Process

The NCERC is the only facility in the world at which corn ethanol, cellulosic ethanol, advanced biofuels, and specialty chemical research is conducted simultaneously.
