Job Overview

In partnership with the UC Health academic healthcare system and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, College of Medicine’s faculty are transforming the world of medicine every day.

Hoxworth Blood Center (HBC) is seeking a Stem Cell Transplant/Cellular Therapies Medical/Processing Facility Director. This is an open rank, open track, faculty position but is expected to be at the Associate Professor or Professor rank. HBC and the UC-CoM offer many opportunities for collaborative clinical and basic research, an active clinical trials program in stem cell transplantation and immunotherapies supporting four different transplantation programs in Ohio.

HBC is the only Regional Blood Center owned and operated by a University in United States and only provider of GTP cell therapy products in Cincinnati. The HBC Academic Unit of the UC-CoM is expanding an existing research program with aiming to excel in basic, translational and clinical investigation of the cellular, molecular and biochemical basis of blood physiology, transfusion medicine, immunotherapies, gene therapy and immunotherapies. Candidates with expertise in hematology, hematopoietic biology and therapy, immunology and/or immunotherapies are encouraged to use this opportunity to build a translational/clinical research program.

HBC is located within the Academic Health Center campus and has established connections with world-class research departments that support a highly collaborative biomedical research environment and a special partnership relationship with Cincinnati Children’s Research Foundation (CCRF) and the Innovation Hub of the University of Cincinnati. HBC, the UC-CoM and CCRF offer access to a wide variety of shared core facilities, including animal facility, state-of-the-art flow cytometry, high-resolution microscopy cores, GMP-compliant research spaces and access to the HBC enterprise blood donor resources providing candidate faculty with an exciting opportunity to engage in collaborative cutting-edge research in transfusion, cell therapies and regenerative medicine.

Essential Functions
Responsible for ongoing operations of the cell therapy processing program, as well as lead the recruitment of additional team members as needed, and the expansion of the existing top-tier cellular therapy and transplantation program.
Sufficiently knowledgeable in all technical procedures and quality processes and systems of cGMP cell and tissue manufacturing to provide oversight and leadership to the core staff.
Responsible for financial management, human resource management and training, process development, process improvement, and accreditation for the Cell Therapy Division.
Ensures compliance with requirements of all regulatory and accrediting bodies (i.e., FDA, FACT, AABB) and participates on external scientific and professional committees in cellular and tissue therapeutics to advance the reputation of the supported programs.
Ensures adequate space, capital and human resources are available to meet the research and manufacturing needs of the supported clinical programs.
Responsible for establishing a collaborative, clinical research program utilizing the excellent translational research opportunities and resources available at UC-CoM and Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center (CCHMC).
Participate in multidisciplinary team care and clinical research within the UC Cancer Center and the stem cell transplantation programs of CCHMC, Jewish Hospital, UC Health and Akron Children’s Hospital.
Develop a research program supported by competitive research grants.
Actively participate in the teaching of fellows, residents, and medical and graduate students.
The position reports to the Chairman and Director of HBC.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have a MD or M.D. /Ph.D., or a PhD if applying to become exclusively the Director of the Cell Therapy Processing Facility.
Position and track will depend on academic accomplishments and programmatic expectations.
The Director must be licensed or eligible for unrestricted license in the State of Ohio.
Expertise in the development of clinical Stem Cell Transplant/Cellular Therapy products is required.
