Research Fellow in Chemical Biology

University of Leeds

Leeds, United Kingdom

Job posting number: #7117149 (Ref:EPSCH1079)

Posted: December 2, 2022

Job Description

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have an established background in chemical biology in its broadest sense? Are you interested in developing new physical sciences methods to support discovery research in the life sciences? Do you want to further your career in one of the UK’s leading research intensive universities?

The post is associated with a major £1.5 million collaborative research programme, funded by the EPSRC, “Autonomous Phenotype-Directed Molecular Discovery”.  This programme aims to automate the discovery and optimisation of bioactive small molecules in a way that is driven by their phenotypic effects in cells alone. The programme as a whole involves development of a data flow to enable phenotype-directed molecular discovery, identification of biologically relevant, yet synthetically accessible space, and development of chemical probes and their application for biological discovery. This post will lead on discovering, validating and applying chemical probes.

With a PhD in a relevant discipline, you will have a strong track record in chemical biology and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary collaborative research. You will assist the investigators in delivering this research program by investigating the mechanism of action of chemical probes armed with protein-reactive warheads discovered using our workflows. You will have access to a superb infrastructure for research in chemical biology and early-stage Drug Discovery, including our newly established Chemical Proteomics Facility. You will be part of a team based in the School of Chemistry and the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology with strong links to the High-Throughput Molecular Discovery Laboratory at the Rosalind Franklin Institute and the Max Plank Institute for Molecular Physiology, Dortmund.
