Job Description

Summary

The Sheth Lab is looking for a motivated scientist to support research-based data acquisition and analysis in our Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU) and other future recording facilities. Patients are implanted with intracranial electrodes for diagnostic purposes, providing the opportunity to record neural signals during their stay in the hospital (typically 7 to 10 days). Recordings allow us to study different cognitive processes, including memory, perception, navigation, decision making, and affective processing and will involve patients performing different behavioral tasks and/or receiving neuromodulation. Data are acquired from intracranial EEG electrodes and micro wires (LFP and single neuron activity, respectively).

Job Duties

  • Managing EMU operations to optimize data collection, including noise reduction, synchronization between electrophysiology and other modalities (audio, video, biometrics), troubleshooting, configuring hardware and software, and other related items. To this end, the scientist will work closely with PIs, postdocs, research assistants, technologists, and clinicians to ensure the EMU is operating as needed/intended.
  • Interact with industry partners to maintain and expand EMU hardware and software to improve research potential. 
  • Support data acquisition and neuromodulation activities in the EMU.
  • Maintain and expand EMU hardware and software by working with industry partners.
  • Manage neural (EEG + LFP + single neuron), video, audio, and behavioral task data.
  • Improve spike sorting pipeline and apply it on microwire recordings.
  • Debug and improve existing MATLAB/Psychtoolbox task and analysis codes.
  • Troubleshoot EMU hardware and data acquisition.
  • Collaborate with team members regarding requirements, schedules, and activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Doctoral Degree. Experience may not be substituted in lieu of degree.
  • Three years of post doctoral research experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with clinical epilepsy systems (e.g., Nihon-Koden), research neurophysiology systems (e.g., Blackrock), and stimulation systems (e.g. Blackrock Cerestim) is critical. The ideal candidate will have experience with these systems, ideally in the setting of clinical neurophysiology research.
  • Experience analyzing intracranial neurophysiology data (human preferred).
  • Opportunities for academic contribution (authorship on scientific manuscripts) are available but not mandatory.
