Job DescriptionJob Summary/Basic Function:
The Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science will provide dynamic leadership in the quest for excellence in teaching, research, professional service, and community engagement within the mission of a comprehensive research university. The Dean serves as principal officer and spokesperson for the college and, reporting to the Provost, oversees the daily operation of the college while holding research, student recruitment, retention and success as fundamental priorities. The Dean works with Wright State University leadership to formulate and implement university policy.
The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree and demonstrate a strong record of research and, success and commitment to work with diverse populations.
A record of excellence in teaching and scholarly research sufficient to hold the rank of Professor in a department in the College of Engineering and Computer Science.
At least three years of relevant administrative experience including budget and personnel oversight.
Demonstrated involvement with the regional engineering/computer science community.
Demonstrated success in the generation of funded research and other relevant scholarship.
Evidence of support and experience with evolving and improving curriculum in general education, engineering and computer science education.
Demonstrated ability to garner resources, such as grants and gifts from public and private entities and individuals.
Demonstrated ability to foster recruitment and retention.
A commitment to increasing the diversity of faculty, staff and students in the College.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills including the abilities to listen, to persuade, and affirm others.
Personal characteristics that include openness, energy, intellect, dignity, integrity, optimism, and vision.
Essential Functions and percent of time:
(25%) Supervises departmental chairs and faculty in formulating and implementing college goals and policy supporting student success.
(20%) Responsible for strategic planning; program development; faculty/staff/student development and retention.
(20%) Student recruitment, relations with external constituencies; collegiate partnership initiatives.
(15%) Resource allocation and budget management.
(15%) Research promotion; fund raising.
(5%) Diversity awareness and planning
