Job Description

ROLE SUMMARY

An exciting post-doctoral research opportunity is available in the BioMedicine Design Department at Pfizer, Andover, MA, to participate in the interdisciplinary efforts in support of preclinical-to-clinical dose and efficacy translation for innovative LNP-mRNA therapies. In this role, post-doctoral fellow will be uniquely positioned to lead interdisciplinary investigations of in-vitro-in-vivo correlation (IVIVC) for LNP-mRNA programs, using physiologically-relevant cellular systems, and applying cutting edge cytometry and proteomics techniques, as well as computational modeling approaches. The research findings are anticipated to directly impact the development of future LNP-mRNA therapies.

We are seeking an enthusiastic scientist who is interested in interdisciplinary training and passionate about bringing new medicines to people. The successful candidate will apply their research experience, innovative thinking and knowledge of biological systems, to establish methodologies for the comparison of LNP-mRNA uptake, intracellular trafficking, and mRNA expression in ex vivo cellular models generated from different types of tissues and originating from humans and pre-clinical species and be directly involved in translational modeling activities for determining IVIVC.

The post-doctoral fellow will be immersed in a dynamic biopharma R&D environment, closely working with, learning from and influencing fellow scientists with diverse technical expertise, ranging from high resolution mass-spectrometry to multi-parameter imaging cytometry and translational modeling. The candidate will gain experience in early drug development, LNP and RNA therapies, and generate high-impact publications. This post-doctoral position requires experience in establishing and optimizing cell-based systems, and ideally with either experience with mass-spectrometry and/or other proteomics techniques, or knowledge of the principles of flow-cytometry or good understanding of quantitative imaging approaches. Background in computational biology is a plus. A great candidate may not bring all these prior experiences, however, should come with a strong background in biology and a drive to acquire knowledge and develop complex methodologies.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

Lead conception of the approach, design and execution; perform experiments, analyze and critically interpret data, communicate results back to mentors
Identify and employ strategies for establishing tissue- and species- specific cellular models
Develop and apply approaches for the quantitative read-outs of LNP-mRNA interactions with cells
Proactively seek new scientific insight with the goal of refining scientific hypothesis and advancing investigations by conducting review of published literature and state-of-the-art research on the topics pertinent to the project and implement learnings in advancing the investigations
Proactively collaborate and pursue guidance from colleagues and advisors to timely achieve project milestones and program goals
Provide periodic progress reports; effectively communicate findings through presentations at internal and external venues; publications at top-tier scientific journals
QUALIFICATIONS

Must-Have

Recent Ph.D. in cell biology, biochemistry or related disciplines is required
Expertise in development, optimization and implementation of cell-based assays for functional readouts
Nice-to-Have

Knowledge of mass-spectrometry and/or other proteomics techniques for the analysis of protein expression or protein-protein interactions in cells
Demonstrated experience in employing flow-cytometry for cell characterization
Familiarity with quantitative image analysis techniques
Experience with LNP biology
Peer-reviewed publications
