The studio enables digital transformation through research, design, and development of patient, provider, and employee digital experiences. But together with world-class physicians, scientists, and researchers, we work tirelessly to give every patient the options they deserve to #BeCourageous in the face of cancer.

ROLE OVERVIEW

We’re hiring a Mobile App Developer within Center for Digital Health to spearhead the development of applications that will change the trajectory of cancer care. In addition to strong technical chops, we’re looking for someone with insatiable curiosity and excitement to solve hard problems in novel ways—especially in a space as challenging, yet rewarding, as cancer.

As a key member of Digital Innovation, you will work on projects ranging from helping our researchers quickly spin up participant-facing clinical trial apps to helping internal innovators develop novel digital health solutions for patients. You will focus on areas ranging from digital patient engagement to remote patient monitoring. Your day-to-day will range from heads-down development work to collaborative engagement with teammates, researchers, and internal innovators. As a true partner driving the success of these outcomes, your work will have a direct impact on groundbreaking research and accelerate innovations coming out of Moffitt.

RESPONSIBILITIES

As part of our team, you will focus on three key areas…

Design and Development: You’ve got a firm grip on the design, documentation, coding, testing, and deployment of software applications—which you’ll use to quickly spin up mobile apps.

  • Partner with key stakeholders to establish architectural best practices and processes for mobile development
  • Flex between Moffitt’s low-code platform and going into hard code mode to develop something from scratch
  • Identify limitations of what’s possible and craft best-in-breed approaches to extend functionality and accomplish the task(s) at hand
  • Leverage the latest front-end technologies, tools, and frameworks to produce quality products
  • Deliver solutions to end users and support integrating SDKs to native applications
  • Implement privacy and security measures to ensure healthcare compliance standards are met (HIPAA, HiTrust, PCI)
  • Advise and apply advanced design specifications and complex behavioral interactions
  • Perform testing to ensure functionality of new features

Collaboration and Training: You’re comfortable working both independently and within small teams—you’re ready to jump into projects as needed across the Digital Studio and Innovation Hub.

  • Partner with researchers, internal innovators, program managers, and designers to create seamless, accessible user experiences
  • Engage relevant stakeholders to solicit and incorporate ongoing feedback for app updates
  • Serve as the user expert and point of access for the organization
  • Provide training and documentation to end users, liaising with vendors and other IT resource partners

Ongoing Maintenance: Squashing bugs and continuously iterating are two of your favorite parts of the job.

  • Create and maintain an abstraction library, bug fixes, and app updates
  • Lead the installation and testing of software upgrades and new features
  • Maintain a data and media recovery plan that includes: regular backups, archiving, and standard operating procedure development/promotion
  • Fine-tune and improve processes with input from other team members
  • Plan and assist in transitioning apps from research into a clinical or commercial setting

KEY COMPETENCIES

You’re a good fit because you demonstrate…

  • Builder’s Attitude: You are resourceful, innovative, and passionate about building and nurturing an innovative ecosystem.
  • A Healthy Dose of Optimism: You see opportunities more often than problems—and you care more about solving those problems than being right.
  • Excellent Collaboration Skills: You seamlessly navigate working with a diverse group of stakeholders, including: patients, caregivers, physicians, operational leaders, and support staff.
  • Strong Communication Abilities: You can communicate ideas and requirements to technical and non-technical audiences alike.
  • Lifelong Learner Mentality: You keep your finger on the pulse of both healthcare IT industry trends and the latest in mobile development.
  • Adaptability and Independence: Things change quickly around here—you’re adept at switching gears just as fast and are comfortable working with minimal supervision.

REQUIRED SKILLS/EXPERIENCES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: This role is a professional occupation which requires a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Management Information System or equivalent
  • Minimum 5 years of experience developing native mobile applications for Android and/or iOS
  • Experience using Kotlin, Java, Swift and/or Objective C to develop mobile applications
  • Deep familiarity with mobile development life cycle, specifically Agile methodology
  • Experience integrating internal and external APIs and SDKs to native applications
  • Demonstrated understanding of Android/iOS performance optimization best practices
  • High degree of diligence in documentation, testing, and coding
  • Understanding of hardware compatibility and versioning strategy
  • Familiarity with Healthcare and other security regulations (HIPAA, HiTrust, PCI)
  • Knowledge of best practice design principles and application interface guidelines
  • Systems thinking capability to correlate all essential causes and effects by getting the full picture, understanding the contingencies, and pushing the right levers
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including the ability to communicate ideas in both technical and business terms

PREFERRED EXPERIENCES/QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience utilizing low-code development platforms (e.g., Appian, Pega, OutSystems)
