Job Summary: 

The Lead Respiratory Therapist oversees the day-to-day operations of the assigned shift and personnel. Representative job duties include: formulating shift work schedules; interviewing job applicants as directed; participating in conflict resolution meetings and initiating corrective action; formulating shift meeting agendas and conducting shift meetings; participating in the development of Service Section policy and procedure; monitoring clinical performance and charting; evaluating annual competency of selected clinical procedures; tracking daily attendance and individual productivity; investigating complaints from patients or extra Service Section personnel; participating in Service Section subcommittees.  The Shift Team Leader is expected to perform direct patient care duties when dictated by high workload or emergent circumstances.  The Shift Team Leader also ensures that all patient care and family related interaction are performed with sensitivity to the developmental needs, psycho-social issues and safety of the pediatric, adult and geriatric patient populations served by Respiratory Therapy.

Educational Requirements:

Associates Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar - Minimum 
Bachelors Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar - Preferred
Master’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar - Preferred


• RCP State License Must be currently licensed by the State of California as a Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP.)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) 
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS/ALS) 
• Registered Resp Therapist (RRT)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Physical Demands:

▪Must be able to perform 1 & 2 man CPR.
▪Must be able to lift and carry 25 lbs.
▪Must be able to move an H-size gas cylinder-and-cart as well as Departmental life support systems over Hospital floor surfaces
▪Must be able to physically roll a 200 lb, horizontally positioned patient.
▪Must possess auditory and visual capabilities for responding to pulmonary life support alarms and related monitoring systems.
▪Must possess mathematics skills necessary to the clinical functions of the job.
▪Must possess oral and written communication skills sufficient for understanding and being understood by members of the Health Care Team.
