The Senior Research Administration Associate of the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences (GSBS) Training Grant & Fellowship Office (TGFO) will direct, assess and improve the functions of the TGFO with the goal of increasing training grant and fellowship submissions across the College, and ultimately awards in support of research training.  The Senior Research Administration Associate – Training Grants and Fellowships will provide expertise and instruction, identify deficiencies and develop resources that will enhance the rate of successful applications for training grant and fellowship awards by faculty and trainees (graduate students and research postdoctoral fellows), respectively.  Welcoming of applicants that are trained scientists (PhD) who have experience writing grant and/or fellowship applications and are interested in working in the field of higher education administration. Willing to train sponsored programs portion of role.

Job Duties

  • Plans, develops and executes the Office’s organizational and operational processes and procedures in support of applications and progress reports for training grants, and individual applications for biomedical trainee fellowships.
  • Manages IT database that supports T32 training grant applications, and assesses quality of data collection and input by other GSBS offices.
  • Advises faculty program directors on data analysis and use in grant applications.
  • Develops and leads educational workshops for graduate students and postdoctoral fellows on individual fellowship opportunities and skills pertaining to proposal preparation.
  • Identifies and transmits information related to faculty mentoring and training plan requirements.
  • Manages and analyzes data for trainee outcomes, prepares reports for GSBS leadership and accreditation requirements.
  • Analyzes industry trends and remains current with funding agency and regulatory changes.
  • Understands sponsor regulations and guidelines related to various awarding agencies and mechanisms inclusive of NIH Grants Policy Statement and post-award grants compliance.
  • Researches training grant application/progress report requirements, as well as updated and new grant policies.
  • Compiles educational and research resources to demonstrate compliance with NIH requirements for training programs.
  • Identifies fellowship opportunities and other educational grant opportunities from the NIH and other foundations and distributes information to potential applicants.
  • Serves as a resource to faculty and administrative staff on format, preparation and submission of training grant applications to federal, industry and foundation sponsors. 
  • Assesses accuracy and completeness of information for training grant applications and progress reports, recommends process improvements and works with BCM IT for database system enhancements.
  • Researches funded training grants, supplemental awards and individual fellowship awards to ensure collection of associated tuition dollars.
  • Prepares statistical and other written reports on funding trends.
  • Administers the Dean’s Award of Excellence Program.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree.  Certified Research Administrator certification through the Research Administrators Certification Council (RACC) may substitute for the degree requirement.
  • Four years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, Master's or PhD in Business or Health Administration, Education, or STEM
  • Experience with, NIH eRA Commons or other proposal submission software, proprietary to an institution (e.g. BRAIN) or commercially available
  • Demonstrated understanding of sponsored research program administration
  • Experience in research or academic administration
  • Demonstrated ability to work with computer-based systems and software
  • Excellent organization, problem solving and interpersonal skills
