Job Description Summary
The University of Southern Indiana invites applications for the position of Chief Information Officer. The Chief Information Officer will provide vision, innovation, advancement, leadership, planning, and coordination of the acquisition, deployment, utilization, and integration of current and emerging information technology across both the academic and administrative sectors of the University. The Chief Information Officer will use their in-depth knowledge of current and future trends in information technologies to set, in consultation with the academic and administrative leadership of the University, a technology direction that optimally supports the teaching, research and service needs of the University within available resources.

Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Direct the information and data integrity of the University and its departments/offices
Ensure the security of the information systems, communication lines, and equipment
Develop strategic plans and implement the objectives of the information technology needs of the University
Provide instructional technology consultation and training for faculty and staff
Manage the course management system and delivery systems which including satellite and video/web conferencing
Develop and establish operating policies and approaches for computing and information technology
Evaluate overall operations of computing and information technology functions and recommend enhancements
Advise senior officers on strategic systems conversions and integrations in support of University goals and operations
Establish and implement short- and long-range departmental goals, objectives, policies, and operating procedures
Serve on planning and policy-making committees

Essential Knowledge and Skills
Advanced degree in a field related to computing, computer systems, instructional technology or related field. Significant college coursework, together with professional certifications and substantial experience may be considered in lieu of an advanced degree. Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s preferred.
Seven to ten years of progressively responsible management-level IT experience that includes setting strategic direction, allocating major resources and direction of senior IT staff across multiple technologies and functions, preferably at an institution of higher education.
Requires demonstrated experience with, and a working knowledge of a broad spectrum of applications, services, and technologies, including major enterprise systems.
Requires sound budget development and administration skills, and the ability to think and plan strategically about budgets. Requires ability to develop an IT strategic plan for the University that comports with the University strategic plan now in preparation.
Demonstrated ability to lead efforts across a large organization, including technology related areas not directly reporting to IT, that both create a common vision and achieve results.
Incumbent must perform efficiently in a fast-paced environment and have proven record as a high-energy manager who delegates, mentors, and develops staff effectively.
Excellent communication skills. Strong interpersonal and presentational skills.

Working Relationships
Reports to the Vice President of Finance and Administration.
Directs a staff of over 40, in the areas of systems management, network and database administration, programming, operations, maintenance, academic and library support, instructional technology, and telecommunications.
Interacts with a diverse group of internal and external individuals, including faculty and students.
