Located in downtown Denver, Colorado, the Auraria Campus is home to three institutions of higher education – University of Colorado Denver, Metropolitan State University of Denver, and Community College of Denver – both MSU and CCD are Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI), and CU Denver is finalizing its HSI and Asian American Native American Pacific Islander (AANAPISI) designations. The Auraria Library serves the campus’ over 35,000 students, the majority of whom are from the first-generation in their family to enroll in higher education. Nature of Work:
As part of the Information Technology and Web Services Department of the Auraria Library, the Web Developer is a Web Services team member who generally provides web user interface and online applications support for cross-library strategic goals and initiatives to ensure a robust and reliable online experience for all library users. The Web Developer works with the team on web-based applications and tools that enable access to library services, collections, research support, and instruction on this tri-institutional Auraria Campus. This position works collaboratively to improve user interfaces, test new delivery platforms, and assist with technical issues while participating in usability testing, analytics analysis, and assessment of virtual spaces. The Web Developer reports to the Information Technology and Web Services Department Head and is within the Digital and Scholarly Services division of the Auraria Library.

The individual hired into this position will be required to provide in-person services in Denver, though we offer locally remote flexible work arrangements based on Mountain Time, a professional development stipend for all employees, and the opportunity to advance through a compensation structure that provides opportunities for career advancement consistent with the Library’s current and future staffing needs.

Examples of Work Performed:

End-User and Library-Wide Responsibilities:

Works with stakeholders, departments, and units to bring incremental and iterative user interface improvement and integration to various external-facing and internal-facing web systems, including the main Library Website, Library Systems, Intranet, etc.
Collaboratively develops and implements usable and delightful features (e.g. Interactive Floor Maps, Bento Box Search, Technology Availability, Event Management System etc.) that improve the quality of the library user’s experience in a meaningful and valuable way.
Uses best practices of development by writing, testing, debugging, documenting, and enhancing source code, to ensure user interfaces’ functionalities will continue to meet the ever-changing online users’ needs.
Implements responsive web design principles to ensure that the main Auraria Library website renders and functions well across multiple devices such as phone and tablet.
Keeps up to date with and implements established accessibility and compliance standards, including Section 508 /WCAG 2.0, for the main Auraria Library website.
Monitors the main Auraria Library website’s performance and implements performance optimization techniques (e.g. monitor Redis and New Relic Alerts).
Participates in user research activities with internal and external users to generate evidence for decision making on improvements of the Auraria Library’s web infrastructure and online presence.
Web Services Team Responsibilities:

Communicates and collaborates with team members clearly and precisely, verbally and in writing within the SCRUM framework to meet sprint objectives.
Participates in Web Services workflows for web development, implementation, maintenance, and contributes to policies creation (e.g Pantheon deployment, local environment set up, etc.).
Assists other members of Web Services in web-related tasks and projects as assigned (such as form updates, integrations with 3-rd party systems, etc.).
Works with the ITWS Department Head to ensure that web services related projects are aligned with the tri-institutional mission and strategic priorities of the Auraria Library and the three institutions served on the Auraria Campus.
Assists with website maintenance activities including website updates, installing patches, conducting QA testing, and monitoring website performance.
Participates and follows agile development practices.
Implements web analytics enhancements to continue improve data gathering.
Additional Duties:
Acts as a member of Library and or campus committees and taskforces as needed.
Promotes a positive work environment.
Performs other duties as assigned.
