Job Description

Job-Specific Responsibilities

HMS MEDscience has an opening for an experienced team teacher for its high school biology-based enrichment program serving a diverse population including Boston area students. This position will directly support the work that advances the goals and vision of HMS MEDscience (http://hmsmedscience.org/mission). This team member will work effectively within a culture inclusive of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals.

Core Duties
- Collaborate with the MEDscience team to deliver a semester-long curriculum to over 50 participating local high schools, several week-long summer programs, and mini-modules
- Work alongside the Program Director and Executive Director to deliver interactive lectures, simulation cases, and debriefs, utilizing HMS MEDscience innovative and unique program pedagogy aligned with program goals of critical thinking, problem solving, building teamwork, communication skills, developing personal health literacy and continued interest in the STEM fields/careers
- Instruct students in medical skills, terminology and scientific literacy (training provided).
- Collaborate with the teaching team to disseminate the MEDscience curriculum scope and sequence for onboarding and recurring schools and module programs
- Provide support and training as needed to partnering high school teachers, interns, and volunteers on the MEDscience curriculum and pedagogy
- Contribute to the revision of the Skills Curriculum to reflect current best practices in medical and public education frameworks
- Assist in refining written materials for teacher training, pedagogy evaluation, and other documents as needed for program expansion
- Act as Point Person for partnering high school classroom teacher; discuss semester logistics, individualize program curriculum calendar, monitor completion of required paperwork
- Supervise student survey administration ensuring 100% rate of completion
- Design and execute personal professional development plan annually

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree required

Additional Qualifications and Skills

- Teachers - preferably in a biological science in a public urban high school
- Medical professionals - preferably with clinical experience in a medical setting, some background in education preferred
- Master’s degree/advanced degrees strongly preferred
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a strong team player who enjoys working as part of a “lean team” - pitching in where ever needed
- Excellent written communication and oral presentation skills
- Excellent project management skills with proven attention to detail
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple demands
- Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training, curriculum development, and non-profit experience a plus
- Demonstrated initiative and flexibility
- Highly motivated self-starter
- General computer skills required
