Job DescriptionReporting to the Associate Director of Diversity in the Division of Medical Sciences and the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, and working with the GSAS Office of Diversity and Minority Affairs team, the Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion will be responsible for the overall strategic management of recruitment and admissions processes for historically underrepresented students in the 14 life science PhD Programs of the Harvard Integrated Life Sciences (HILS) and for advancing the vision and strategic priorities envisioned by HILS leadership.
The HILS federation is part of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and is comprised of 14 PhD programs, with 1,400 students and 700 faculty. HILS promotes interdisciplinary academic and research collaboration and builds community among students, faculty, and staff through programming across research areas, PhD programs, departments, and schools.
Coordinating recruitment efforts across HILS Ph.D. programs
Advising prospective students interested in life sciences at Harvard
Representing HILS at national and local student recruitment fairs
Coordinating on-campus events for prospective applicants from historically underrepresented backgrounds, developing an annual recruitment preview weekend, and managing and administering virtual open house(s)
Coordinating faculty diversity ambassador program and student-led recruitment efforts
Promoting HILS recruitment and diversity, inclusion, and belonging efforts on social media platforms, and the HILS and GSAS websites
Evaluating recruitment efficacy of historically underrepresented students, developing recommendations and reports, and implement changes as necessary.
Providing research and recommendations to support best practices and developing content to educate and train HILS admissions committees
Documenting recruitment efforts and outcomes to be included in training grant progress reports and reports for HILS leadership.
Supporting the Research Scholar Initiative, the Summer Honors Undergraduate Research Program, and the Summer Institute
Facilitating affinity space(s) and conversations about diversity, inclusion, and belonging with faculty, staff, and students as needed.
The Assistant Director of Diversity and Inclusion will work effectively within a culture inclusive of individuals with diverse backgrounds, styles, abilities, and motivations, and appreciate and leverage the capabilities, insights, and ideas of all individuals.
