Job Description

POST-DOCTORAL FELLOW

Job Description
The Department of Dermatology at Columbia University is seeking to hire a highly motivated
post-doctoral researcher with expertise in tissue engineering, microfluidics, iPSC
differentiation and organoid models to join our multidisciplinary group of engineers, biologists
and medical doctors.
The open position offers an exciting opportunity to develop complex skin organoids and
genetic disease models from patient iPSCs using novel microfluidic platforms. The project
will primarily include designing and developing microfluidic devices, studying diffusion of
biomolecules in 3D hydrogels, differentiation of iPSCs of healthy donors and Progeria patients
into complex skin organoids, and using these microfluidic organoid models to perform humanrelevant
drug testing.
The position requires a Ph.D. degree in Bioengineering or a related field with expertise in at
least one or more of the areas of microfluidics, stem cell biology, biomaterials, tissue
engineering, and skin biology. Demonstrated ability to culture primary and iPSCs, to design
and operate microfluidic platforms, to synthesize biomaterials/hydrogels, and to perform 3D
confocal imaging will be an important criterion. Prior experience in COMSOL simulations and
3D-printing and bioprinting would be advantageous. Candidates will be responsible for
managing multidisciplinary collaborations including engineers, biologists, clinicians and
supervision of technical staff. Candidates should have excellent communication skills and
must be able to function independently, think critically and creatively, and be technically
innovative, as well as participating as part of a dynamic team.
Please email the documents below to both Hasan Erbil Abaci, Ph.D. at
hea2113@cumc.columbia.edu and Mashika Patterson at mp3620@cumc.columbia.edu.
1. Cover Letter with a description of research background and future goals
2. Resume and/or CV with contact information of three references
3. Titles of up to three most representative first- or co-authored papers
