Job Summary/Basic Function:
We are seeking a highly motivated and organized individual to contribute to projects investigating immune cell responses and viral proteins in autoimmune diseases. Duties will include basic immunology, cell and molecular biology techniques such as ELISA, Western blotting, flow cytometry, processing of blood samples, mouse organ harvest, cell culture, isolation of DNA/RNA, and PCR. OMRF is an independent, not-for-profit biomedical research institute adjacent to the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) campus in Oklahoma City. Bachelor’s degree in one of the biological sciences, physics, chemistry or related area, or equivalent years of relevant lab experience. Must have effective communication skills and excellent attention to detail. Must be motivated, conscientious, and highly dependable. Must be able to read and comprehend instructions, short correspondence and protocols/procedures, and to write routine reports and correspondence. Should be familiar with standard lab techniques. Must be able to work with minimal instruction on routine work.
Minimum Degree Required:
Work Hours: Typically Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm.
Bachelor’s degree in biology or related research experience, strong GPA and interest in biomedical research. Hands-on experience with laboratory techniques (cell culture, ELISA, western blot, flow cytometry) is highly preferred. Candidates interested in pursuing graduate school or medical school are encouraged to apply. Mouse colony management experience is a plus. Familiarity with Windows Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) is preferred.
Regularly required to stand, use manual dexterity, talk or hear; Frequently required to walk and reach with hands and arms; occasionally sit; frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds; vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Potential exposure to fumes, airborne particles, or rodent dander. May work with toxic, caustic chemicals, radioactive materials, liquid nitrogen, human tissue or blood. Potential risk of electrical shock. Occasional exposure to cold 4C, and/or extreme cold -80C from freezers. Noise level is usually moderate.
